You know....there are some fine Southerners here on DU:
So, why don't we put together a big kickass Southern DU get-together?

Why let all the Chicago/Penn/NYC/DC/LeftCoasters have all the fun?

Anyone?

1. I'm all for it, but it would have to be somewhere north of Atlanta.
The Georgians on these forums always want to have get-togethers in the downtown Atlanta area. Forget it, I don't drive into Atlanta if I don't have to.

2. Where would be a good place to hold it?
Atlanta is good for those flying in.

I've never spent any time in the southeast. Any other suggestions?

Sounds fun.

5. Hey! Texas was in the Confederacy, hence, it's the south!
So there! :P

Plus meeting DUers is a good thing and should be done as often as possible.

6. You said "southeast"
:P

Meeting DUers only counts WEST of the Mississippi River. :D

And if Cold Stone Ice Cream is involved.

7. Well, I was thinking of central locations.
If I were selfish, I'd say meet here in Texas. ;)

Yeah, but if Stephanie and Michael are there, it's a good thing.

10. That was east of the Mississippi!
So therefore, you can't flirt with him at a meet-up which doesn't count. :P

I get so confused as to when I can flirt with another DUer's husband.

23. Charleston, S.C., here.
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 07:59 PM by hiaasenrocks
A great place for a meet-up, I might add.

Seriously, when this idea gets off the ground and if people decide to meet in Charleston, sign me up for some scouting duties. I'll hunt down the best hotel rates in the area, things like that. And I can get any information anyone needs and answer any questions in regard to the area. I'd be happy to head up that part of the process.

PM me anytime.

29. Well, there are still some great places here.
You just have to know what to look for, and what to avoid.

I see from your profile you're from Durham. I used to live in Raleigh. Been down here in Charleston for three years now, and...I kinda miss the ole triangle area.

31. Yeah, it was growing fast when I left, with no sign of slowing down.
I lived in North Raleigh, off Creedmoor Road, just a few miles from Crabtree Valley Mall.

32. Oh good, my niece's office is up there
just across the street from Crabtree. It's crazy man. I couldn't even get in there during the xmas rush to shop.

Do you like living in Charleston?

33. Crabtree at xmas is a nightmare.
I worked there years ago, and one of my co-workers said he was going to find a way to parachute in during the holidays. :)

I like Charleston. Love the beach, the food is great, and there's a lot more culture here than in Raleigh: comedy clubs, music and art festivals, etc.

I guess the reason I miss Raleigh is more of a nostalgia thing (friends and such) than missing the actual city.
