anti-bush songs or musicians
I'm adding an "anti-bush songs" page to my site, and can't think of any. I have the Dixie Chicks and Springsteen, and could put some 60's stuff.

But I wonder if you folks have any suggestions about songs that are either aimed right at bush, or are real pro-good stuff (love, peace and happiness.)

Since my musical tastes are stuck in 1976 or so, I'd appreciate any details, like CD titles, why they are anti-bush and like that.

Thanks, and have a save and sane holiday.

1. Motorhead
Listen to their album "Hammered" they've got a song called "Brave New World" that's very antifascism.

4. Steve Earle seems to have a lot of these types of songs, plus
he is a good songwriter in general. There is a song about the American Taliban guy that is quite good and his song Jerusalem ( Not sure of the album) is about peace as well. All his stuff is great.

The new REM retrospective album has a new song on it... the name escapes me at the moment that talks about * and other nastiness. Also Rodney Crowell ( Roseanne Cashes' ex, not that it really matters) has a song from his new album, Fate's Right Hand, that is rather critical of politics in general and a host of other things!

Bruce Cockburn dislikes conservatives and war, and is a great guitar player, so he is always a good bet.

Midnight Oil is a political band I love and they have lots of great yell- along political anthems which are also critical of war and corporate greed in general. Their CD Earth and Moon and Sun has a few of these songs and Diesel and Dust is also a great album to check out. The singer is a lawyer and environmental activist.

Thanks for the opportunity to contribute to this... there have been other threads about this, but I wasn't quick enough. Now I can make my pies with a good conscience!

Even with the thief in the White House we have much to be thankful for.

I am thankful for DU and my friends and family.

9. John McCutcheon for sure!
Check out this CD, "Hail to the Chief"
http://www.folkmusic.com/record/r_chief.htm

For instance:
I wanna be in Ashcroft’s Army
I wanna be a spy
I wanna watch my neighbor’s doings
Kiss your rights goodbye
In this legal devolution
A perfect chance for retribution
Let’s just can the Constitution
I wanna be a spy

17. Here's a little ditty I came up with earlier this year....

THE BUSHY MAN
(Sung to the tune of “The Candy Man”)

VERSE 1:

Who can call his daddy,
to keep out of Nam?
Join the Texas Air Guard
And spend one year on the lam?

The Bushy Man.
Oh, the Bushy Man can.
The Bushy man can ‘cause he mixes it with bull
And makes his lies sound true.

VERSE 2:

Who can run for pres’dent,
lose by half a mil?
Take the guy who won to court,
and get the White House still?

The Bushy Man.
Oh, the Bushy Man can.
The Bushy man can ‘cause he mixes it with bull
And makes his lies sound true.

BRIDGE:

The Bushy Man lied, U.S. soldiers died.
Still, nobody will impeach him.
Democrats—how do you reach them?
Didn’t that election teach them?

VERSE 3:

Who can sniff white powder,
up into his nose?
Get mixed up with Enron,
and still smell just like a rose?

The Bushy Man.
Oh, the Bushy Man can.
The Bushy man can ‘cause he mixes it with bull
And makes his lies sound true.

(REPEAT BRIDGE)

VERSE 4:

Who can cow reporters?
Open tax loopholes?
Never get Bin Laden,
but still rate high in the polls?

The Bushy Man.
Oh, the Bushy Man can.
The Bushy man can ‘cause he mixes it with bull
And makes his lies sound true.

22. Check out Casey Neill for some solid anti-establishment tunes
http://www.caseyneill.org/cds.html

Think Phil Ochs meets The Dead Kennedys. Here's the lyrics to one of his rousing songs...

"Dancing on the ruins (of multinational corporations)"

chorus:
we're dancing on the ruins of multinational corporations (X3)
-Ha ha ha ha ha

say goodbye to plastic & goodbye to cars
no more convenience stores hello to stars
no more wall street and no more pentagon
thinking about these things makes me happy

<chorus>

goodbye to polystyrene we'll put an end to the waste
there is no time for debating we have to make haste
if we are going to survive without computer program minds
we're going to have to can pop culture
and say hello to campfires and stomping barefeet
and naked amoebas hungry to eat
hello to primal conciousness and love for the land
now that coyotes are running the country

<chorus>

sayonara to suburbia and well manicured lawns
bye bye barbie and ken doll pawns
no more developers or slimeball execs
your condos are on fire

<chorus>
