Has anyone ever owned a Select Comfort bed? |
|
We are looking to replace our bed, my sister has one of the Select Comfort adjustable beds and loves it. I suffer from back and neck pain so we are considering buying one, but they aren't cheap. I was just wondering if anyone had tried them and how you liked them.

I've had it for about 3 years and love it. Once you find your sleep number it is great.

I haven't heard anyone who didn't like theirs. My sister swears by hers.

2. Maybe you should go stay overnight at a Radisson.... |
|
I don't have one, but when I stayed at a Radisson--they had them. I thought it was okay--a few more nights to play with the adjustment numbers would have been nice.

It's hard to test them out in the store. I think that Select Comfort offers a 30 day trial in your own home. If you don't like the bed, they'll take it back no questions asked. All you have to do is pay the shipping.

3. i've had one for about 6 years and love it |
|
and it's as good today as the first night we set it up unlike a conventional mattress which breaks down slowly over the years of use
we went way cheap on ours (no "Sleep Numbers or major padding) and if and when I replace it for a king we'll get the digital controls
I especially like that we can use it on a platform and get a bunch of storage under it, since it doesn't need a "box springs" unless you absolutely have to have one to go with your current bedset
also, we recommended them to my inlaws and they love theirs too, they have one for the motorhome, their winter home and the main house just got one last year too so since they bought 3 of them I have to assume they love theirs too

7. Select Comfort is memory foam, isn't it? |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 04:28 PM by yy4me
A quick note if it is. Both my husband and I suffer from back problems and had been advised to use a good memory foam mattress topper over our mattress. We have bought very good mattresses over the years and never seem to be happy with the degree of firmness or softness. In discussing this with our "Doctor", he suggested we try the topper. We researched the memory foam products and reviews and based on the reviews, bought a 3 inch foam topper by Carpenter Company. This is the real "NASA" memory foam, not the egg crate stuff. We will never go back to a topper free mattress again. The comfort is great, and this product does not retain body heat like the regular foam toppers. The research we read about these products stated that the critical denseness of these toppers is 3 inches, the body does not use a thicker one. Just as we rotate our mattress every few weeks, we turn the topper. Never had a problem with this product. Perhaps you should try a topper. A double bed size is about $150.00 on line, usually w/free shipping. Good luck. On edit, other companies make memory foam, I'm not trying to endorse one in particular. Make sure you look into the same grade as used by NASA.

9. I think that is the Tempurpedic bed |
|
Select Comfort uses air channels in the mattress to increase or decrease firmness to adjust the bed to your own needs, each side of the larger beds can be individually adjusted. They do have topper options but the basic system is air based.

They came out to the house and set it up for which we were grateful. It was *way* more involved than I wnated to get into. We've subsequently found out that they're heavily red in their financial/political contributions.

11. We have a knock off of the Select Comfort |
|
does not have the "sleep number" remote, but is absolutely fabulous. I can adjust it to the firmness or lack of it that I need at the moment.

12. Get a Comfortaire instead |
|
Comfortaire (IIRC) is the original company that came up with beds with air chambers. Then a couple of execs left and formed Sleep Number. Same product, but SN spends a lot more on marketing, so they charge more for theirs.
(IIRC, that is...)
In any event, we've had a Comfortaire for years, and LOVE IT. The mattress never needs turning, has a 20-year warranty, and will never sag (since it has no springs).
Bought it from the company (essentially) for half price on ebay, in the original packaging. It had been shown in a trade show (thus never used--just pushed on or sat on), but once it had been out of the box, they couldn't sell it as new. So we got a bargain. A couple months later I bought one for my dad.
Last time I looked they were still selling the trade show ones on ebay.
