just bought 4 bottles FRENCH wine for dinner with Repug family
Edited on Wed Nov-26-03 08:48 PM by hlthe2b
members at Thanksgiving tomorrow....

I'm determined not to say/start anything controversial-- I've been estranged from my cousin and her husband since the selection... But, this little subtle dig, isn't too over-the-top, is it?

2. It's absolutely PERFECT!!
If they don't notice before you leave, you may want to ask how they liked the wine and let them know in an innocent way it's French wine.

4. Not over the top at all.
And excellent taste. I have Italian pinot grigiot, since we all like that. Screw Berlucsoni.

5. Yeah, probably.
But funny nonetheless . Anyone so uptight they get offended by a something like that deserves it though.

Let us know how they take your little joke.

7. Not at all....
even try to emphasize that French wine is THE best, and that the French have such fine taste (which is true). Do everything you can to be anti-Republican but as much as you can to keep them guessing as to whether you're insulting them or not.

I'm sure if you enlisted people here at the DU, we could come up with some good techniques. My (extended) is Republican, my wife's (extended) family is Kucinich! Like Me! So we're visiting them tomorrow.

8. Any subtle suggestions to keep em guessing appreciated...
And, that is the point, right. Reel 'em in and then throw em back out, repeat cycle to keep em guessing!

13. A few more things to throw in
Choosing French wine was beautifully clever and subtle. It will make a delicious addition to your "Le Jour de Donner des Mercis "

But every soldier who goes into hostile territory must have more than weapon at their disposal. But don't start using these unless they start unilaterally acting like assholes.

When you toast, say "Sante!"

Say "merci" instead of thank you.

When making a strong point, preface it by saying "Mon Dieu!"

During the meal, when you take a taste of a dish, say "Tres bon!" or "Quelle saveur fantastique!"

If you are getting tired or bored and want to leave soon or things just turn uugly all of a sudden, consider a rousing rendition ot La Marseillaise -- stand on a table for extra dramatic effect
Here's the lyrics
"Allons enfants de la patrie!
Le jour de gloire est arrivé;
Contre nous de la tyrannie
L'étendard sanglant est levé.
L'étendard sanglant est levé.

Entendez-vous dans les campagnes
Mugir ces féroces soldats?
Ils viennent jusque dans vos bras
Egorger vos fils, vos compagnes!

Refrain:

Aux armes, citoyens, formez vos bataillons,
Marchez, marchez, qu'un sang impur
abreuve nos sillons.

Que veut cet horde d'esclaves,
De traîtres, de rois conjurés?
Pour qui ces ignobles entraves,
Ces fers dès longtemps préparés?
Ces fers dès longtemps préparés?

Francais! Pour nous, ah quel outrage!
Quels transports il doit exciter!
C'est nous qu'on ose méditer
De rendre à l'antique esclavage?

Refrain

Amour sacré de la patrie,
Conduis, soutiens nos bras vengeurs
Liberté, Liberté chérie!
Combats avec tes défenseurs
Combats avec tes défenseurs

Sous nos drapeaux que la Victoire
Accourt à tes mâles accents:
Que tes ennemis expirants
Voient ton triomphe et notre gloire

Refrain

15. Don't waste the French wine on them.
Buy something like Gallo and mention that you knew they wouldn't care for anything French so you hope they don't mind something domestic.

16. tempting...
but you know how Repugs are... They'll be mentally calculating how much they spent on the dinner versus the contribution of all the guests-- as we sit there... Plus, a glass or two of fine French chardonay or cabernet sauvignon may be the only good thing I can say about tommorow!

18. that's awesome
If they say something, gently remind them that French troops are on the ground in Afghanistan, helping the Americans, and training Afghan national soldiers to defend their country against a new Taliban and the Al Qaeda insurgents, since we haven't found Osama or anything...

Have a box or two of California "wine" on hand if they're really snobbish. At least some mad-dog or something.
