|
Corarose has accepted the nomination.
May her first call not end with "You haven't killed the bird first?"

2. From An Old Comedy Routine I Heard Once |
|
The guy never could cook a thanksgiving turkey. Toward the end of a typical customer service exchange, it turned out the turkey kept escaping from the oven.

3. "Chef" is a professional title |
|
conferred by the ACA.
Going to a culinary school, - even with excellent grades, even if one graduates, -even if one is really talented doesn't make one a chef.
To sport the title, and individual must show certified education by and accredited school, work in industry for a minimum of 2 years (depending on the level of cert desired), and pass an orchestrated written exam followed by a practical exam. The practical exam involves preparing a formal dinner for a panel of certified members in good standing.
No more than an excellent med student is a doctor, no more than an excellent law student is a lawyer, no more than an excellent engineering student is an engineer is a student of the culinary arts a chef.
All due fun and strokes for corarose aside, she's not a chef yet. I hope that if it's what she really wants, one day she will be.

4. No honey you've got it wrong we are called Chef's at College |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-26-03 09:11 PM by corarose
Not all Chefs have degrees and what you are talking about it something totally different then being a Doctor or a Lawyer.
Many Chefs do not have any College experience and It's Talent and that's it. You can either do or you can't do it.
It's like Driving a Truck if you can't drive then you can't become a Truck Driver.
You have it mixed up totally.

8. No Honey, I don't have it wrong, you do. |
|
Many cooks do not have any college experience. But a cook and a chef are not the same thing.
It's more than talent and if you don't believe that, fine, you'll get an ugly education when you get into the real world.
You have to be able to do more than cook complex recipes well to be a chef. Being a chef involves the entirety of the responsibility for a restaurants financial success. In that respect, the burden on the individual who undertakes a career as a chef is greater than the burden on an Accountant. You're a bad accountant, you send some poor guy to bankruptcy court. You can't figure out ordering, food costs, staffing issues and dining trends then you can cook like a virtuouso for all it matters, you and the restaurant are still going down in flames.
Good luck getting anyone to put the entirety of the success of their restaurant in your hands just because you and your friends decided you could call yourself a chef.
I most certainly don't have it mixed up. And toots, I've been doing this stuff a hell of a lot longer than you.

5. You are thinking of the Certified Master Chef Exam |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-26-03 09:22 PM by corarose
Here is a link honey why don't you read it before making accusations about someone Else's field that you obviously know nothing about. http://www.acfchefs.org/certify/crtcmc.html#HISTIf that was the case most of the Chefs in the Kitchens around the world wouldn't be called a Chef because 35 people have passed that test so far.

6. That's the cert for a Master Chef, not a chef |
|
and it's something entirely different.
I'm in no way talking about something I know nothing about. My mother was a chef, my brother is a chef, and I have a certification as a chef too.

11. She is a Professional and way above me |
|
Let her handle it I am taking the day off.
I am also going to call all of the Hotels & Restaurants in the areas and tell them to let the GUYS & Gals in the kitchen know that they are no longer a Chef and that they should take the Chef title off of the menu because they could get sued for lying to people.
LOL!

I mean the State that is on the map? Damn I am going to take your posts in to my College and ask them why they are lying to us and charging $38,000.00 to becomes a COOK.
We have to do an Externship and we don't have a test like you are speaking of.
