What a revelation!
I've been doing an enormous amount of reading lately and today, after a conversation with a Republican associate who accused me of being liberal, I tried to explain to her how I don't fit her definition. That's when it occured to me...I'm really a conservative.

Yep, that's right. I have to admit I want to conserve the following:

peace
right to choose
free speech
the environment
freedom of assembly
the right to pass gas in mixed company
beer drinking
my pets lives
the integrity of my neighbors house
care for the underpriviledged
books
my wifes love
etc...

Well, there you have it. I've been outed. Pardon me if I offended anyone by making such a public announcement, but I hadda git it offen my chest. Am I alone?

1. Nope, you are in good company, I believe those 12 tenets
should form the basis of a new nation, based on what the US used to be.

Oh yeah, and nose picking makes 13.

4. Why do you object to being called a liberal?
I know that Repubbas try to make it sound like a dirty word, but I really get off on thanking them for the compliment.

6. I don't really mind.
I just don't think it fits. Sometimes I like it. Especially, when I think about a remark made by, I think Cronkite, who said (roughly) when he was asked whether he was liberal he said "If you mean by liberal do I consider all sides of a problem before deciding on the best course of action, then yes, I'm liberal."

For me, I don't always like it because I like to think I'm not defined by a political party or ideology. I prefer to think of myself as self-defined...Does that make sense?

5. That's good to know.
That makes at least five. Five being a casual flight attendant friend of mine I saw the other day who I haven't spoken to in a while. We've never talked politics before but, I suspected his horizon might be wider than many of my associates since he married a foreign born woman who is older than he is (Like myself). Anyway, as suspected, we were sympatico. How reassuring.
