What file-sharing program do ya'll use?
Am I allowed to ask that without the RIAA busting my door down?

1. Kazaa Lite K++
The best I've seen to date. IP blocking and pop-up block integrated.

2. What's IP blocking?
Does that mean the U.S. Gestapo can't identify your IP adress and therefore can't tell who's downloading what?

4. Exactly.
However, the technology is constantly evolving. What works this week may not work next week.

5. Limewire
I prefer the gnutella-based programs, as they are less likely to have nastry trojan-horse features like Kazaa does.

I've heard that they've stopped development on it. Any truth to this?

9. I use limewire as well
I use a Mac, so it's about my only option. I haven't detected any spyware on my computer either. Other than that, I think the search feature stinks compared to others.

I've tried em all and DC++ is about as good as it gets.

Here is a website with a ton of information on all kinds of filesharing applications (and getting files from newsgroups)

Kazaa Lite - the spyware-free version. Works the best for me.

WinMX - Used to use it often, but I have problems even getting files on this one.

Morpheus (new version) - this is the only Gnutella client that I've tried on this computer that actually connects. I deleted all the spyware after installing.

Which brings up an interesting point. I tried installing Shareaza (Gnutella client) and it won't connect to any networks, and if it does, it takes a while. I'm using Norton as my firewall. Anyone care to guess what's up, or if they have any problems?

I try to avoid:

Direct Connect - tried it once. It's a pain to connect to hubs, and there's too much of a 'holier than thou' attitude by the hubmasters (some won't let you connect unless you're sharing at least 80Gb (!!!). Plus, I had a hell of a time connecting. I uninstalled this little popularity club.

If you're worried about snooping, install PeerGuardian. It blocks select IP addresses from the RIAA, MPAA, FBI, pop-up ad servers and fake file servers. This makes Kazaa a little more bearable.

And if you crave more info on file sharing, go to this site: http://www.zeropaid.com

15. Use a bit torrent system
Try www.suprnova.org

No fake files, no public servers....everything is stored in pieces on shared servers. You download a seed, and while you downloading the movie, you share that seed with others getting the same file....sort of a community.

I have a friend who just got Gothika, Bad Santa, and Cat In The Hat. THAT'S how fast they are at getting the movies up.

Read the forums for help on how to get started, but it is WELL worth it.

They have music, movies, TV shows, games, apps, books, anime, everything.

16. WinMX
Sometimes the queing sucks (waiting forever to actually download), but at least there's no spyware in it.

18. BitTorrent, Direct Connect, and Usenet
I do a lot of trading of live recordings, so the first two are quite good for that (although the original Direct Connect is full of spyware). Usenet is also good for that, but there's many...ahem...unauthorized tracks there as well. However, I've discovered more bands and purchased their actual CDs that way, so the RIAA can bite my crank.
