My husband is fed up with my DU devotion and politics in general
He's not into computers and he isn't into what I consider to be the intellectual concept of DUism.

He is fed up to "here" with me being on the computer all the time.

"Who are you writing to?"

"DU.P

Well, he left, and I am enjoying a nice evening alone. To hell with 'im , I'm going to open a bottle of champers.

3. I understand
While my husband does enjoy DU somewhat (LBN and GD) occasionally and is politically on the same plane, he doesn't get my devotution to DU and doesn't always like what he sees I write. Oh well, I'm still going to be me nonetheless. I tried the not-be-route and it doesn't work.

5. My hubby simply is jacked
Of all the time, I spend here. Normally I would be on hundreds of different sites. And now he thinks I am being obsessive. If its not this site, then its my other favorite. :)

10. I know its...weird,
but its JohnnyCash.com, the forum they have there is totally...cool. No politics allowed. Nothing but CASH. And family members participate. And the way other members treat each other is truly astounding. No flaming, no rudeness. I can't believe this site actually exists on the internet. GRANTED you can't talk politics, or even really current events. It stays on-topic.

but, growing up with Cash, and then listening to his last few CD's. That man accomplished alot. He was one of the few LEGENDS we had.

17. Thanks for the back up
I don't know what it is about todays music that just pushes me back, I don't want to listen to anything but simple, honest lyrics. In the 60's, Cash was the rebel. I wish that Mellencamp, or Earle, or The Chicks, could do their thing, with the impact that Cash had. But we will not have another like him. :(

25. He was a powerful presence for many reasons
One was that like Haggard, he had redeemed himself from his past. In that era there were the Hedda Hopper's and the like but they were the ugly side of journalism..not the norm. Today one can redeem themselves if they are Kelsey Grammar or Rush...in other words if they have proven themselves hateful then the hateful will love them.

It is also I believe due to him being a patriarch of a family that has contributed so much to music.

Now that I know there's a felow soul there perhaps I'll play.

28. Hi Heddy!
Yes. Had to put some bucks into it (Scooty) but it's been great overall. Took it up to Canada on the boat in August and it was a great asset for getting around. Best vacation ever.

How are YOU doing?

19. I don't know how I did it, but my husband is beginning to transform.
His eyes are opening and he no longer thinks I'm looney. (Yes, he thought I was looney-bins for a while.) But many of my predictions have come true. They're not really predictions, just educated quesses made with the best possible information obtained from DU.

What you can do is find what interests your husband and when the subject comes up on Late Breaking News or even in the Lounge, share it with him. You'll become an authority in his eyes before too long.

choose your husband over DU at least when he is around. DU is cool, but it is not worth breaking up a marriage over.

22. My wife says I am consumed with politics.
She doesn't even bother to say it any more. It is better for me to be on DU than to yell at the tv. Besides Amanda my 3 year old granddaughter has the tv most of the time for her kid videos. She has about 80 of them. Nemo, Land before time x 5, 101 Dalmations, Monsters Inc., Lady and the tramp, and Pinochio. My wife gets pissed when Pinochio is on and they take the little boys to the island and turn them into donkeys and send them off to the salt mines because I always say - Look Amanda, the little boys are going to GOP island.

30. good point, bearfan454
I rarely yell at the computer when I'm on DU, but the television gets a lot of verbal abuse from me, especially when I am on 1) CSPAN2 (Senate floor) or 2) CNN.

I do better if I keep the TV on I Love Lucy reruns, but my husband hates those as well.

If it were up to him, I would watch golf, or the cooking channel.

*sigh*

24. My husband went from “the parties are the same, who cares...”
to talking about which Democrat makes the most sense, I think he will vote Democratic for the first time in his life, and that is a really big deal since he was a true independent.

This could mean that there are other true independents that realize that there is a difference after all.

29. Independents make me cringe sometimes, spotbird
Speaking of which...my husband just today said he was disgusted with both parties and would consider an independent.

I went ballistic and "reminisced" about Nader saying how there was no difference between Gore and Bush....

Independent is great. I wish Nader had run for Congressman as an independent. Not president though.

Well, there I go again....

DU is a great place to rant...I love all my DU buddies!!!

36. That's a good one, coalmiinersdaughter
My husband asks "who are you writing to?" and I always say "my mother" instead of explaining that I am posting to DU.

It's pretty funny when you think about it. Sad if causes a divorce though! Still, I don't even think my husband would believe how much time I spend read messages and articles and links to who-knows-where that I get off DU.

Cheers,

33. I only go on DU when my husband is not around.
I don't want him to think I am a DU addict. Most of the time, I only spend an hour or so on DU. My husband is not very political, but hates * and will not vote for him. He regrets voting for * just like I regret voting for Nader.

34. My 8 yr-old and 5 yr-old daughters are fed up with me playing TOONTOWN
on the computer all the time. My 5 yr-old has resorted to bribery in an attempt to get me off the computer so that she can have it.

Last night she offered to let me play with her Barbie doll collection, three of her favorite stuffed animals, and her Strawberry Shortcake doll if I would let her use the computer for just 5 minutes. Being the nice, sweet daddy that I am, I turned the computer over to her for 7 minutes.
