1. Well it's the only forum with those rules. |
|
If you want to talk politics without them, go to P&C.
You can curse all the fuck you want. lol

General Discussion anyway, they've reduced it to passion-less, pointless, polite stupidness and redundant pontificating, a forum for Will Pitt and very few others...and my guy's better than yours and "Can Dean beat Bush" type shit...but don't say the word fuck, heavens...because your censored, thread shut down, threatened with being kicked off DU and scorned!
It's absolutely sickening...

3. I wasn't aware they were censoring obscenities. |
|
I don't use them a lot, but I do sometimes - and I've never seen any of them censored.
I do get pissed off at some of the politically correct residents who run to the censors when you post something they can't handle. You can't cheer for Iraqi battlefield victories, and one of my threads was canned when I suggested two of the Democratic candidates who might as well be Republican candidates could help us more if they became suicide bombers.
But this chatboard is light years ahead of Smirking Chimp. There's something VERY strange about that operation; I strongly suspect it's a right-wing operative. For all I know, Democratic Underground may just be a slicker act, but it seems like a pretty cool place so far.
I just wish some of the bleeding heart liberals would get lost and people with a little more backbone would take their place. We're at war, folks - with our own government!

Not sure of the working definition being used for profanity, though.
Webster's Definition of profanity (with related definitions) =
Profanity: 1 a : the quality or state of being profane b : the use of profane language. 2 a : profane language b : an utterance of profane language
Profane: 1 : to treat (something sacred) with abuse, irreverence, or contempt : DESECRATE 2 : to debase by a wrong, unworthy, or vulgar use
Desecrate: 1 : to violate the sanctity of : PROFANE 2 : to treat disrespectfully, irreverently, or outrageously
Definitionally, Profanity doesn't mean swear words, unless used in a context as defined above.
So pretty much, it is either an arbitrary or global application. I think the rule would be better if the goal of the rule was defined in a manner to contextualize an otherwise fuzzy rule.

6. The only rule about profanity... |
|
... involves the subject line and initial post in the thread. After that, you can turn the air blue with profanity, if you wish.
