Brokeback Mountain (No Spoilers) |
|
I know there have been a plethora of threads started by people when they get home after seeing this movie, and I guess I'm no exception here. I don't get to go to the theater very often to see a film, and indeed I went alone to this one, but seeing and hearing everyone tell me how much they enjoyed it, I had to go...alone or not.
I'm not sure what I expected when I sat down in the theater. What began unfolding in front of me was the most stunningly beautiful scenes I have ever seen! The views in the mountains are awe inspiring and I was immediately thrust into the landscape as though I were actually there with Innis and Jack. Go see this movie if for no other reason than that.
The soundtrack is likewise fantastic. It's never overpowering but beautiful just the same. I have always been a fan of the pedal steel guitar, and the presence of it in the soundtrack makes everything shown on the screen that much more life like. Were we in the mountains of Wyoming, you would expect the music of Brokeback Mountain to emenate from everywhere at the same time. I somehow don't think a CD of the music is going to produce the same feelings in me that it did while I was watching the movie, but I WILL go purchase it just so I can close my eyes and re-live what I saw on the screen.
I have heard people say it is heartbreaking. This is true. In the end, I left the theater feeling a loss that I have not felt since my grandmother passed away. Do NOT let this keep you from seeing the movie. In my opinion, movies are meant to evoke emotions in us, be they good or bad. Fright. Lightheartedness. Sadness.
Ang Lee is to be commended for what he's given us with this film. I think it deserves every award it's been given so far, and more to boot. I hope it gets Academy Award nominations, and I further hope it wins all of those awards.
For those of you who have not seen it, PLEASE go! For those of you who have, please go again.
Thank you for listening to me.

I had some of the same feelings while watching this touching, heart-breaking and perfectly made film. I loved every minute of it and cried throughout the last half hour! :hi:

3. One of my fave parts (spoiler) |
|
was when Ennis was waiting for Jack to arrive (they haven't seen each other in four years). Jack is late but as soon as Ennis hears the car and looks out the window to see Jack, Ennis gets up so fast off that chair and hops up like a little kid at CHristmas. He's all excited and giddy. Loved that part! :hi:

I didn't get to see it today. But, on a good note, the SO said he'd see it with me Saturday, and I only had to harass him for about an hour. :D
