It's "Ne-vah-dah". Neh - vah - dah. Not Ne-väe-duh. I don't care what their poker-and-hooch-addled brains think when they step back out into the sunlight to shake off the hangover and get out of their garish polyester and sequined party duds before going in late to work. They can't pronounce the name of their own state, just like those corn stuffing, armpit scratching rubes from Missouri (that's "Mi - suer - eee", you nardheads, not Missour-uh), and now they want their little delusions to be pandered to and when they don't get their way, they try and take it out on some poor little re-tard public servant who was nice enough to visit their flat, unimportant, garishly-decorated state and who never done them a lick of harm, unless you count the ones who serve in the military, have relatives in Iraq, or are allergic to a little radiation.

Geez Louise, folks. You don't say "Läss Vee-gus" do you? Either get a clue or move to a serious state. Like Cally-fornyuh.

1. In a way he's right, yes
Nevada is a Spanish word, and the Spanish pronunciation is Neh-vah-dah. But then Arnold is right, too. Cah-lee-fohrn-ee-ah is the Spanish pronunciation.

But since neither speaks Spanish, I won't give them credit.

2. Thank God! I thought I was the only one!
I was mortified to think that I was mispronouncing *anything* in the same way that Mr. Nukulur does.

But I say it the same way.

3. You're joking, right?

Or drunk?

If your native toungue is Spanish, then it's pronounced Neh-vah-dah (soft d almost th). If not, then Neh-va (a as in apple)-dah.

Right, next you're going to tell us that you pronounce every last non-English word that has been adopted into this language with PERFECT, RELEVANT accents.

5. It's important to the locals...
... who live there. Right or wrong, the local pronunciation is predominant. Witness, for example, the residents of Cairo, Illinois. To them, it's Kay-ro, not Ki-ro with a long i. To the residents of Thoreau, NM, it's not Thur-row, it's Throw. Colorado to those in Colorado is Col-o-rah-do, but for the residents of Colorado City, TX, it's Col-o-ray-do.

We've butchered adoptions to the language for so long, in so many places, in so many ways, that one needs a pronunciation guide.

I think the issue ought to be that Bush butchers the language every time he opens his mouth extemporaneously, and butchers people of the world at whim. And, let's not forget, Ne-vad-dans voted for him, although they may wish not to be reminded of that now.

Cheers.

6. Doesn't matter who we voted for...
...with only 3 electoral college votes and less than two million people living in this state. I voted for Nadar in 2000, but I may as well have cast my vote for Mickey Mouse since Nevada is so far away from being a "key" state in regards to national elections.

Why did Bush Jr. come here, anyway?

7. But -- NV may go Dem in 2004 over Yucca Mountain
All things being equal (which they are not -- considering the electoral redistribution after the 2000 census) those votes would make the difference.
