1. Don't do it!

I'm not one to talk; I haven't been able to quit yet, but don't start again! You've made it so far.

2. Please don't go back to smoking.
You have achieved something that tons of us only wish we can do---quit smoking!

Just exercise a little more and cut down on eating in between meals, or that late-night snack but please don't start smoking again!

:hi:

4. Why not join us in
"exercise and fitness" http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=295 and "weight loss and maintenance" http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=337

they're both fine forums where you can find people to help you out -- and NOT by going back to smoking! :D

5. I don't really think I'm going to start smoking again......
but it's just so d*mn frustrating trying to lose weight when I've never had to deal with clothes not fitting, and even new clothes bought because of weight gain not fitting. I'm just depressed because I bought this leather jacket on sale via the internet, and when it came I tried it on it didn't fit, and it's 2 sizes bigger then I've EVER worn before in my life!!! I'm just terribly depressed.

7. I'm so sorry

I gained weight after I quit smoking, too. I got really depressed about it and put on some more, and made the mistake of starting to smoke again- and I haven't lost any of it yet.

I just started recently taking vitamin b complex, and I feel a lot better. I'm starting to exercise some more and I don't quite feel so depressed as I did a few weeks ago.

Congrats on going so long without a smoke, and good luck- if you have the strength to quit smoking you have the strength to beat this, too. :)

6. True thing: You won't lose the weight.
Smoking won't help you lose the weight; it will just stick around and then you'll be disgusted with yourself for starting to smoke again and frustrated with your weight.

When you smoke, you only hurt yourself - you're not proving to your fat that you're stronger than it is.

I went from 140 to 160 when I quit smoking the first time (and I'm not terribly tall, so it was a big gain), never lost it when I started back up after the elections, then gained another ten when I quit for good. I'm slowly losing it (at the rate of 11 pounds in 10 months) but it's taking work.

I strongly recommend nicotine replacement lozenges when these cravings become unbearable - they're far less hard on your body.

10. I used the gum. Quit. Gained. Haven't lost. Still Quit. Crave the gum.
now and then.

But I'm done with cigarettes. For many years. Over five at least. Can't remember. Sucking down beers as fast as I can.

Its always something.

Seriously op, hang in there. It gets easier.

11. A Kennedy, copy Politicat's post
and read it every time you want a smoke.

You should talk with your doctor to find ways to help you stay off the nicotine and kick your metabolism so you have the energy to shed the weight.

Grapefruit (the fruit...not sweetened juice) really helps me...but if you have to sweeten it, use Splenda.

9. That's the main reason I can't quit smoking.
I don't need to gain weight. Excess weight causes heart disease. Smoking causes cancer. So something is going go kill you. So I'll go with cigarettes and die happy with a habit I enjoy. :smoke:

12. Me too!
I'm in the same boat. I quit smoking a little over a year ago. Now, I'm a fat non-smoker. :( I know it's better that I'm not smoking, but I'm bigger than I ever thought I would be and I don't like it at all.
