John Lennon OR Paul McCartney?
Which one do you prefer? Musically? Personality-wise? Attractiveness (if you're a gay/bi guy or a straight woman...personally, i'm neither, but I'm curious)

Personally, I'm definitely a John Lennon person. He seems far more interesting, political, funny, witty, etc. Musically, Though I love both their songs, in general, most of my favorite Beatles songs are John's.* (Rain, Revolution, Strawberry Fields Forever, ALL his stuff on the White Album (exc. for Revolution 9 and Goodnight), Across the Universe, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, A Day in the Life)

Damn, I wish he were alive. Can you imagine what'd he say abt Bush?

* I do have to say that I love Paul's post-White Album stuff. I also prefer Paul's Band on the Run to most of John's post-Imagine releases.

1. George Harrison
Oh come on, someone had to be facetious.

Paul deserves more credit though, and his politics are sound.

2. Oh, Certainly
I'm not dissing Paul. And George is great. But let's face it, the big rivalry is between John and Paul, that's why I'm just curious who people prefer between those two.

4. If Paul had died in 1980, we'd love him more.

John does have that advantage.

OR THIS

We're playing those mind games together
Pushing the barriers, planting seeds
Playing the mind guerrilla
Chanting the mantra, peace on earth
We all been playing those mind games forever
Some kinda druid dudes lifting the veil
Doing the mind guerrilla
Some call it magic, the search for the grail

Love is the answer and you know that for sure
Love is a flower, you got to let it, you got to let it grow

So keep on playing those mind games together
Faith in the future, outta the now
You just can't beat on those mind guerrillas
Absolute elsewhere in the stones of your mind
Yeah we're playing those mind games forever
Projecting our images in space and in time

Yes is the answer and you know that for sure
Yes is surrender, you got to let it, you got to let it go

So keep on playing those mind games together
Doing the ritual dance in the sun
Millions of mind guerrillas
Putting their soul power to the karmic wheel
Keep on playing those mind games forever
Raising the spirit of peace and love

Love...
(I want you to make love, not war, I know you've heard it before)

3. Let's see
more thoughtful and caring?

John Lennon

lyrics and melodies that live on?

John Lennon

Concern for others and the state of the world and an ability to express this?

John Lennon

Ability to write simplistic melodies and lyrics that only a four year old would love?

McCartney.

8. Attractiveness?
What's with you straight guys? Afraid to be labeled a 'fag' because you think another man has looks? Get over it and tell us which one you think?

I think Paul is better looking but none of them are my type.

10. Lennon easily.
Lennon wrote the best songs, Paul wrote all the drippy pablum. As a straight man, I don't find either of them attractive but Paul is the better looking of the two.

11. I won't choose like that
that would sour the notion I have of both of them individually and as a songwriting team

13. Yeah
But they really didn't write much together after the early years. They labeled everything Lennon/McCartney but most of the stuff was written individually. The differences in style are glaring.

14. No doubt
and there are positives to both of their styles and substance

I will say that Lennon was more political and that McCartney was more about a style that was inoffensive.

15. Inoffensive is putting it nicely
he is a king at being able to take a three chord progression and putting childish words to it and calling it a song.

I blame him for the state of music today. The corporate fucks know that younger people buy simplistic shit, and they have "created" nothing but larger piles of shit every year for many years. Now and again, someone with true talent will break through and sell some records, but it is, as of now, almost impossible.

The more ignorant, the more it sells. Period.

Lennon was, of course, more political - it was a political time, and he was a major part of it. McCartney chose to remain on the sidelines of history and write tripe to sell to fools.

It's the age-old dilemma.

I've been with women that liked the crappy music they play on the radio for mass consumption, and haven't been able to stand them for long.

"She has a beautiful voice"

but she is singing the same song I've heard for 15 years with a different voice and slightly different lyrics. Anyone can do that. And while I'm at it - Does anyone actually watch that American Idol shit?

end of rant.

In terms of pure musical ability Paul kicks John's in terms of ecleticism and pure musical knowledge. That being said I think they were about equal in terms of songwriting abilities.

John's extremely quotable but he flipfopped a lot on his views. When Paul was messing around with tape loops and avant garde music he said "Avant garde is french for bullshit" but once he met Yoko he changed his tune.

I think John's history gets a little bit of a whitewash because he was killed in such a violent fashion. He became a martyr almost like a St. John type of deal.

And attractiveness? Towards the end of their working John just fucking LOOKED cool. Paul was always the cute one though wasn't he?
