Poll question: Do you think stations will soon DECREASE the # of commercials?
Edited on Thu Nov-27-03 09:47 PM by HypnoToad
Here's why:

I was wacthing "Dr. Doolittle 2" on FOX.

A commercial break (standard 5 minute length for movies) came on.

I started flipping channels, male as I am.

Went to CSPAN2.

Al Franken was on.

Stopped watching Eddie Murphy and turned into Al for an hour.

I love that Al! :loveya:

Am gonna buy that book tomorrow.

All of this meaning, with commercial breaks getting longer, networks might loser viewers in the process.

(Of course, who watches commercials anyway? Charmin has animated bears wiping themselves and grinning yet I buy Scott tissue, of which I've never seen an advert or in my life!)

1. You're kidding, right?
The networks would show nothing but commercials if they could figure out how to get anybody to watch it.

2. Only If There Were Competition
Would someone keep track. Otherwise, the figures are manufactured to keep Chimpy's boat-a-float.

My apologies to the Navy and their NCA.

4. It's gonna get to a breaking/saturation point someday.
It's gonna get to the point where the audience will be turned off from certain TV shows that overmarket products, and where it will become economically unfeasible for networks to be able sign contracts with quality TV shows with an over-saturated level of advertising.

There's a breaking point for this. Yeah, Americans are stupid, but they're not dumb enough to want to watch a network that has all commercials. Hell, if I knew something like that existed on my cable system, I'd immediately ask for that channel to be blocked. Add in the factor that most people don't tune in to watch commercials, and many are getting royally pissed at the market saturation.
