Always nice to see hawaii get a decent mention in the national news.

The lava rocks came from a stream in west Oahu, the firewood from that side, too, the ti leaves from a man up the road, the banana tree stumps from local farmers. The labor setting up a huge fire pit, lining it with wood and rocks, filling it with food, sealing and tending it overnight? That was provided by dozens of volunteers.

1. The Hawaiians know how to roast up some grub!
I lived there for 3 years - I need to go back, and see all the stuff I missed when I was a kid. :D

3. My parents went back and saw the house we used to live in.
Looks a lot more run down than it did then. I *do* remember some EPIC meals there. But then, I gained way more weight in Texas than I ever did in Hawaii.

4. Oh, how I miss the islands!
I lived on Oahu when I was a kid. Nothin' in the world like a real authentic luau!!! I learned to make poi in elementary school, but never learned to like it. My friend Keawi (cay ah' vee) was great at mashing it, despite the fact he had a hook for a hand. Pig roasted in a pit is *mighty* tasty, and though I don't know what the civilian community there is like, the CG community in HI is very closeknit. I felt like I had 30 or 40 cousins. It was a great childhood experience. and I have some TOOOOOOOOOOO adorable pics of myself taking hula lessons!!!! he he he.... I was such a CUTE kid.... not sure when I went bad.....

5. You went bad -
when you became a demoncrap! HA HA HA HA!!!

But there's still to listen to God, and vote republican.

Glad to hear you had a good time in Hawaii! It's the most wonderful, excellent, specialist place in the world, IMO, and I miss it dearly. But after GOPisEvil's family let their house run down, the property values plummeted, and I felt I just couldn't live there any more.

6. Hey - it was military housing, dammit!
I'm offended on behalf of my mother, who keeps a nice house, dammit! :P

7. Didn't realize you were there cuz of military.
I went through a few of the bases while I was there, and was always surprised at the poor condition of the housing. Though I'm sure that now that we have a military-respecting president in the casa blanca that all houses have been rebuilt, repainted, and have marble bathrooms.

Property values in Hawaii are freaking insane. Just as bad as Manhattan.

8. LOL - actually, the housing we were in was brand new when we got there.
In fact, we had to wait 30 days until it was ready. We stayed in a WWII era bungalow that was REALLY cool, but kinda decrepit. I'm sure the USAF has torn them down by now. I'd love to have one, and move to some land somewhere.

We were on lovely Hickam AFB - right near where Hawaiian Airlines starts their airplans first thing in the a.m. :grr:

9. Nice golf course at Hickam!
Wouldn't want to live in it, though. Even playing just a round of golf, the sound of airplanes became really annoying.

10. I played the little 9-hole course, which was within walking distance.
Being 11, I doubt the generals would have wanted me on the NICE course. :D
