Songs you would have sworn were by someone else
This has probably been discussed before - but are there songs that, when you first heard them, you believed were recorded by a different well-known artist than actually performed them? Not necessarily because the actual artist was trying to cop the other one's style - but because they just had a certain feeling to them?

For example: for the longest time I thought Crowded House's "Something So Strong" was by Squeeze. When I first heard "Darlin'" by the Beach Boys, I thought it was Chicago. "Crazy On You" by Heart - I thought it was Jefferson Airplane. "Stuck In The Middle With You" by Stealers Wheel - I was certain it was Dylan.

Anybody else have any true confessions along these lines? Discuss.

1. Aerosmith - "Dream On"
At first I thought it was a song by the Guess Who I hadn't heard before.

And the first time I saw Marilyn Manson on TV I thought, "Isn't Alice Cooper getting a little old to be doing this".

4. Coldplay's "Clocks"
I've heard that song dozens of times on the radioo station my soon listens to in the car, and I was certain it was Sting until very recently.

5. Once pegged "Goodbye Stranger" on Winwood.
Also, Steely Dan's "Do It Again" on the Doobie Brothers.

Why? Who knows. I guess THC crosses the synapses a bit.

7. "Rock Me Gently"
"Rock Me Gently" sounds like Neil Diamond. But is Andy Kim of The Archies.

Most Donnovan songs sound like Dylan. But aren't.

15. Not me, but...
...when Blondie's "Dreaming" came out, my (now ex-)wife asked if all ABBA songs sounded alike!
