Saw the new Russel Crowe movie - Commander in something or other
Awesome movie!! Cheesy-ass ending, though, but otherwise, very cool! It had some nice side stories going on, but dealth them just enough so that the focus could remain on the ship and the battle and the captain life.

Exciting!!

I saw it in a digital theater, so the sound of course was also incredible. I was amazed that all through the movie I cuold hear the sounds of a wooden ship creaking and rolling, sometimes very quietly, but always present whenever a scene was happening right on the ship. It annoyed me a few times - sometimes it was the same volume as someone squirming in the chairs might make, so I'd look around, then realize it was just the sound of wood creaking. The beauty of surround sound!

I highly recommend it!

11. Rabrrrrrr, read the books (all 20 of them), they're definitely worth it.
The books give an even richer picture.

12. That's too many!
I like ships, and stories of that time, but that's too much.

"Nutmeg" and "Ahab's Wife" were enough for me to last for a long time.

13. Trust me, just start with the first, "Master and Commander".
I never got into this sort of thing, but I was hooked after the first 20 pages. Since then, I've read a couple of other late 1700's/early 1800's nautical fiction series, but the Aubrey/Maturin series is still the best.

7. Billy Bob Thornton is Santa.
And he's a drunken, sex-crazed thief, with a little person for an accomplice/elf. Mucho hilarity!

8. Well, hell, that must be good! I like Billy Bob!
This weekend, I'll go see the Matrix (finally), possibly that new movie with that chick and that guy that Ron Howard directed (though I'm sure he'll fuck this up like he's fucked up everything he touched), and I still want to see Kill Bill, and maybe I can put in for a couple more. Gothika, perhaps - I was tempted to sneak into that tonight after Master of Command, but I didn't. I was hungry for my traditional duck dinner.

And I'm still juicing that I happened to wander, quite by accident, into the theater a month ago and caught one of the apparently brief stays of the remastered Alien, on a digital screen. Man, that was so cool.

Can't wait for Return of the King.

9. This was the first time I had been in a theater in about a year.
 I only go to them on dates, it seems.
