My Thanksgiving day...
OK. My wife and I headed out, planning on a trip to the Royal Gorge with my mom's 10 year old Honda Passport... anyway, I had planned this trip to include a scenic view of the mountains, a total 3 hours drive to Canon City, when it should take about a hour and half.. What I didn't tell my wife is that on a certain highway, there was a "Adopt-a-Highway" sign that was put up a few weeks ago just for Howard Dean -- when we turned on C-291 after 2 hours of driving on Highway 24 and 285 (and looking at the clean view of the Longs Peak side of the Rockies), there was it -- an "Adopt a Highway" sign that is adopted by the People for Howard Dean. I got three pics on it -- I'll have to develop it and upload it.. I thought this was a great place -- central Colorado where it enspouses Republicanism, a few miles north of Salida, CO. After we drove through Salida, I got into a minor accident involving my mom's front bumper which screeches every time I make a left turn. I've already informed my mom on this, she was glad we were OK (the alignment is out of whack though), so I'm supposed to take it to a shop tomorrow to see if they can make it better (it needs a yank or two to stop the screeching IMHO).. Also, while we were checking out Royal Gorge (first time ever), we made a stupid mistake of thinking that the train we got on was the one that would cross over the bridge -- it didn't. It just gave us a view, and it was a kiddy version of the train. I found the real train, but was too late (and being Thanksgiving, most shops/attractions were closed), but knowing next time I'll just take I-25 all the way down and take it right so I don't have to drive 2 hours to Salida and get myself into a problem. Oh well, life stinks, but at least we got home OK despite the minor damage to my mom's car. When I called my mom in DC, I told her what happened -- all she said was "Make the car drivable - take it to Bill's (reference to an client of ours who owns an auto shop)" so my mom was cool with this, even if it was a unfortunate mistake (there was ice on the road, still there after 4 consective days of sunshine to melt last Wednesday's snow)
