Just in: Steve Smith has ascended to Heaven and will catch passes at God's |
|
side during today's NFC Championship game.
If the CBS guys had slobbered over him anymore during the pre-game he'd have to change his fucking uniform.

1. Could Steve Smith throw a pass that Steve Smith himself could not catch? |

Was, "Could Steve Smith catch any pass?"

It's not like the knob-slobbing Brett Favre and Michael Vick get for doing nothing.

Only impact was that bogus TD punt return.

If I were Jerome Bettis, I'd be watching the game tapes from the Seattle-Carolina game for a taste of what's to come.

...he'd be shoveling dragon poop down in Hell right about now. That guy couldn't catch a cold today.

8. They threw to him like, what, once? He was triple and quad covered |
|
the whole game. And he still got a TD from a punt return.
He's got an average QB and no other WRs to back up the team.

9. The only reason he got the TD from the punt return.... |
|
...Is because the ref dropped the flag on the field, so they didn't bother catching him when it was going to be called back. And then the goddamn refs cancelled the penalty call. What was up with that?

|
The man's a great WR. Until TO gets back, he's the best in the game. Give him some love. Holmgren did. Dude couldn't sneeze without three Seahawks wiping his nose afterwards.

16. Not taking anything away from Seattle's defense |
|
which was clearly superior, Smith's problem is the team he's on. Carolina wasn't that good a team. Their QB is a reject from the Saints (and it doesn't get any lower), they have no other effective WRs, and their running backs this year have been like the drummers for Spinal Tap. They lost the last decent one they had last week.
So Smith's inability to get open was the result of him being the only weapon on the field. Seattle knew if they shut him down, the rest would be easy, so they did. I only remember him missing one pass he had a serious chance to catch, and even that pass was high and in double coverage. But put Smith on a team like Seattle, with a good QB and a multi-dimensional offense, and he shines. Take him off Carolina, and they are a six and ten team.
I could be wrong. That's how I see it. And I'm not a Carolina fan. I actually don't much like any of the four teams that played this weekend. I guess Seattle is my least-disliked.
