Comcast Telephone Service ??
OK ... i admit it ... i'm still using dial-up to connect to the net ... but i've decided to upgrade to some form of high speed connection ...

The problem is that DSL seems to not be available in my area right now ... the local Verizon wire center is "out of capacity" ... and they have no idea when they'll install more lines ...

I've tried calling numerous other ISP's who provide DSL but they all use Verizon's lines so that was a no go too ...

Finally, I decided to check out broadband from Comcast ... the good news is it's available ... the bad news is that because i'm not a cable customer, the monthly charge would be about $60 instead of $46 if I were a customer ...

They told me that I could also get the lower rate if I subscribed to their telephone service ...

I've heard from a couple of people that Comcast's phone service stinks ... has anyone had any experience with it, good or bad??

I'd be grateful for any info you could provide ...

6. If you post your question in the Comcast Cable and HSI forums,
you'll get plenty of replies.

That's my experience with DSLreports.

2. The answer is not what they told you.
It's true that the cost is higher if you don't have cable. What they're not telling you is that you can order just simple basic cable, which gives you a very limited selection of stations, for about $12/mo. You still pay about $55-$60/mo, but you get something out of it...you get the broadcase stations and a few others. I think this is a better solution than the telephone service, since comcast is a specialist in cable. But, I've never heard of their phone service, so get some advice on that also.

Good luck!

Keo

4. satellite and cable too ?
they actually did suggest this ... said it would be about $10 a month ... i'm not sure if that included renting their little magic decoder box or not ...

i have directTV right now ... i've got coax cables running all over my house ... not sure what would be involved with piping the cable signal thru the same wires as the satellite signal ... seems like a bit of a pain ...

the easiest solution seems to be to go with DSL but i can't seem to get there from here ...

5. Non-Verizon ISP
shouldn't be affected by Verizon DSL shortage. Their DSL is
simply split to your existing phone line.

8. My friend just switched
from Comcast telephone service back to Qwest. She said there were frequent interruptions on the line and she was having to repeat herself a lot or it often dropped the call.

I subscribe to Comcast basic cable at about 8.50 a month and get broadband for the cheaper price.
