Dean vs. Bush email virus??? |
|
I just got something that resembles a virus to me. It said something like:
Here's a graphic I send to my Democratic friends.
And then some reference to Dean vs. Bush 2004.
I didn't open it because it had the feel of a virus. Paper clip attachment and everything. Anybody know?

2. Viruses don't always work that way |
|
Most of the time they don't anymore. Let's say one goes off in my email. The virus attaches it to an email in MY address book, let's say DinoBoy's, and emails itself as if from DinoBoy. DinoBoy doesn't have a virus because the virus never went anywhere near his computer. He doesn't know anything about it. (Or she) I don't mess with anything that remotely resembles a virus.

3. ya, that's what I'm getting at |
|
If that person didn't send you anything, then it probably IS a virus. If they did send you something, then it's all clear.

4. That's why you want to ask them if they sent you a file |
|
I do that whenever anyone sends me an executable file, or anything that looks odd (especially since it's usually the people that I know don't understand computers who send executable powerpoint files, .exe animation files, etc.). So far, all legit, but I'm not willing to risk the integrity of my computer.
So just send an email and ask 'em if they sent it.
And scan that bugger for viruses before you fire it up, too.
