"Of All the Girls I've Loved Before" - Yours? Have you ever loved?
Edited on Sat Nov-29-03 12:29 AM by faygokid
Do you remember your sweethearts, from another era, another time? At 52, and with two marriages (both gone now), I cannot help but think back about so many wonderful experiences, going back so many years. I remember them from 1968 (Oh Debbie. I shan't forget you). I dedicate this song, to all the girls I loved before. Bless you all.

1. those are long memories
faygokid, i have a few myself.
My only consolation is that i became accustomed to understanding the need to be alone.

3. Yeah, me too. Alone.
My sympathies, my friend, but keep your friends about you. No weirdness here; just recalling the so many good times, on a night when my second wife told me that it is truly over. Will miss the pets.

6. My friendships are few, but strong
and the acquaintances are numerous, and pets...too many.
is this a time of year or actual day of remembrance for you?
just curious,

4. I'm going through the hardest breakup of my life.
It ended about seven months ago due to her having issues with me staying friends with my ex (I'm a lesbian and lesbians often maintin friendships with past lovers). In retrospect, I would have validated her feelings and continued couples therapy. She was someone who I could see spending the rest of my life with. We both treated each other really well and there's no doubt in my mind that she loved me and that I loved her. I cry everyday but I just have to believe that whatever's supposed to happen will. Damn, the holidays are hard :-(

5. Lindsey, keep your perspective
The fact that you have loved like that says you have a good heart, and it will heal. Focus your energies on family, friends, and pets. We care about you here on DU. I am sure many others do, as well. Please, don't discount that. Take care, and look to your strengths. Not a misspelling in your post! Hey, that's something! Bless you.

7. Thank you fagokid
Your kind words truly help. I know I need to believe the George Harrison lyric "for every mistake, we must surely be learning.".. and I truly believe that I learned a lot throughout the course of my relationship. Once again, thanks so much.

8. Only one
If you see her don't say hello for me
I can't forgive her for how she let me be
Tell her I am feeling fine no matter where I am
Losing her was was a find for him
And now I'm living free.

9. Here's some real Dylan for you gokid...
If you see her say hello she might be in Tangier
She left here last early spring is living there I hear
Say for me that I'm all right though things get kind of slow
She might think that I've forgotten her don't tell her it isn't so.

We had a falling-out like lovers often will
And to think of how she left that night it still brings me a chill
And though our separation it pierced me to the heart
She still lives inside of me we've never been apart.

If you get close to her kiss her once for me
I always have respected her for doing what she did and getting free
Oh whatever makes her happy I won't stay in the way
Though the bitter taste still lingers on from the night I tried to make her stay

I see a lot of people as I make the rounds
And I hear her name here and there as I go from town to town
And I've never gotten used to it I've just learned to turn it off
Either I'm too sensitive or else I'm getting soft..............

See Zimmerman for the rest of the song and hang in there brother....

10. Hey wait a minute...................
Debbie, 1968.........that was MY Debbie!! So it was YOU!! Just kidding, but there was a Debbie in 1968 that I'll never forget either, she was my first.
Yes, I sometimes wax nostalgic about the halcyon days of my youth and the women thereof.
Believe it or not I equate each and every one to a particular song from the period. To this day, when I hear what is now termed a "Golden Oldie" from my misspent youth, I associate that song to a particular love/lust interest. They feelings can come as a warm glow or as a cold wind in my memory.
In either event, they were feelings.......and feelings are what make life worth living.

11. Feelings work both ways
They can make you Make you look forward to the next day or that can make you dread another. The strength to survive either in within you and overcoming the desire you can't have it the hardest reality to will ever face. Strength in numbers or strength in one is decided by you and you alone.

12. faygokid, I often think back...
And with no exceptions, all of my ex-girlfriends/spouses were really wonderful people! No rose-colored glasses here, there were many faults (and I am *tough* to live with) and some odd traits, but in all they were truly terrific women. I have been very blessed, and I hope that each of them is contented, happy and at peace.
