Antiques people: China question (dishes, not empire)
What's the difference between a regular set of china and a breakfast set? This is most definitely an antique question - it doesn't look like Noritake or Wedgwood still carry breakfast sets.

(I'm re-reading Sense and Sensibility, and the question as to why the Stanhill plates are superior to the Norwood Park plates - especially the breakfast set - is going to keep me up....)

1. Not as many pieces in a breakfast set
A regular set of china has serving bowls, platters, gravy boat, etc. More sizes of plates such as dinner plate, luncheon plate & salad plate. More bowls like a cereal bowl, soup bowl & dessert bowl

My breakfast set consists of a teapot, creamer, sugar, tea cup, saucer, cereal bowl, a bread & butter plate. Basically a tea set with bowl & plate added to it.

I have snack sets that are only a cup & large plate with an indentation on the plate for the cup.

I'm a china nut. :)

2. I have snack sets, and a full dinner set.
Both inherited. My sisters got the luncheon set and the stoneware. I'm kinda sorta turning into a china nut as (this is going to sound terrible...) my elderly relatives die and leave me their china.

Thanks for the info!

3. If that's terrible
then I'm terrible right along with you. That's how I got my start also. Then I started researching different pieces I inherited & had to have more that I found along the way.
