Saw Matrix Revolution tonight - disappointing
Edited on Sun Nov-30-03 03:23 AM by Rabrrrrrr
Incredble effects, especially that incredbile fight in Zion, but for the most part, there was only a real 20 minutes or so of actual story line. The rest was all dressing and unneeded. My moviegoing partner and I both felt that the this movie had little story and lots of gloss, and that the ending was also very disappointing. We figured there would be way much more philosphy again in this one, and it didn't deliver at all, and the ending tied things up far too nicely, without the huge amount of ambiguity we expected.

Really quite sad. I'd truly looked forward to this one, and unlike many, I thought Reloaded was quite good.

Revolution, though - nothing but disappointment, except those truly amazing special effects. Those blew me away.

2. No, we didn't think the ending was good.
it was too clean. Could have been way better.

3. I'll agree that the ending was bad
Too 'cookie cutter' and not like the Matrix philosophy at all.

It seems every movie/show HAS to have a neatly packaged ending, made just for us, the audience, to be able to digest well the food we've been given.

For my money, I prefer anything that makes me think at least a little bit.

On the other hand, I would not use the word 'disappointing' for Revolution. There are plenty of movies that deserve that tag, and this movie was not at all in that league.

I'll also add that the special effects did not blow me away. They were natural extensions of pre-existing special effects. The money-making machine that this trilogy has become is perfectly willing to invest their resources in 'more' and 'better' of the same thing we've seen before. That's commercialism, plain and simple. I'd be perfectly content with 'exploratory' or 'inventive' any day over 'more and 'better.' Remember, the talent involved in making 100,000 guards instead of 1,000, or 8 million creepy crawly things instead of 8, is largely technical (i.e. mathmatical) and should be recognized as such...better math. I'll give you that the enhanced special effects used much "better math" than the others, but how many variations on "Crouching Lion, Hidden Dragon" can we stomach?
