Shostakovich, Where Are You When I Need You?
Edited on Sun Nov-30-03 10:51 AM by The Lone Liberal
For several years now it has been my opinion that if the Supreme Being was going to provide us with mosquitoes, flies, ants and other nuisance that the least he could have done as an off-set was to have written a musical score for our existence. It would be wonderful to wake up to the trilling of wind instruments rather than the headachy, bad-taste feeling with which I awake.

Now, don’t get all torqued. I admit sunsets, sunrises, the throaty laughter of a woman, the keystone cop antics of babies, the color of fall, and a whole lot more are pretty good stuff to be thankful for and I am thankful. It is just that a little musical scoring would not be so bad, would it?

Speaking of musical scoring. If the last three years with Bush had been set to music what theme song do you suggest?

1. Well, Bush is awful
but surely he's not in Stalin's league?

2. Duh, that is not much of a moral challenge.
I should hope he is not as bad a Stalin, I would settle for him being as good a Nixon, even that would be an improvement. Not that I liked Nixon, but hell you work with what you got.

4. Random choice of composers
Large leap to endorsing Stalin. Of course comparing Bush with Stalin would be over-the-line. Comparing Bush with someone inept, devious, underhanded and a liar would be right on target. I just cannot think of anyone who is in Bush’s league on those attributes.

5. If it is windy (and since I live in the Windy City) it often is,
I awake to the sound of the harbor bells that I have in my back yard.

Theme music of the Bush regime? The funeral dirge, of course.

6. You are right
I think of Shostokovich's 5th all the time when I think of Bush.
