1. On a float? In a band?
This parade isn't on Thanksgiving?

5. sorry, dudes/dudettes...I was in New York - just got home
They were in their high school band - only one of 10 in the entire US to be invited. I have a 14 year old color guard daughter* and a 17 year old son** who plays trumpet (he already knows everything - just ask him!)

They weren't allowed to wear any additional pins/political stuff, though I DID see a "Bush lies, who dies?" sticker on the subway.

6. One good thing about NYC, apart from the million other good things,
is that it's basically liberal, and those stickers are EVERYWHERE.

Along with a lot of other anti-Shrub stuff.

I see nothing in the city (at least, not in Manhattan) that is freepy patriotic garbage. See quite a few flags, but I don't think they're faux-patriotic flags, but sincere displays.

Gonna be such a shock when I leave the city for the holidays, and go home, and see the stupidly patriotic Christmas light displays on people's homes. They were up in 2001, and they were up last year, and I'm sure they'll be up today.

Nothing like turning Christmas into a "let's celebrate America triumphalism" holiday.

7. No kidding! NYC was so refreshing...
I live in Texas, where most people think Bush is president because God wanted him to be...downright depressing!

10. I wish the TV would show more of the kids
and less promo crap.

When I think of all the candy/fruit/bake sales, the car washes and so on to try to raise money to go...the endless hours they spend practicing to get it just right...a loooooong bus ride, and several hours in line up in freezing temperatures...

Well it just seems like those who are laboring for the love of it should get top billing. Congrats to your kids! :-)

8. I heard something interesting the other day -
The US government is the #1 consumer of helium in the world.

Macy's is #2.

11. Yeah, I remember seeing them...
Sad to say, but some people near me booed your band, just because they were from Texas...

Good job from me. It was my first time going to the parade and my friend and I had fun (even though we got there at 7:00 am.) It's always fun to see the high school band kids in the City for the "first time." Pass on my kudos! Keep up the good work.
