What fond food memories do you have (mrs grass soup, PBJ, etc)? |
|
Sitting here eating some Mrs Grass soup and a peanut butter sandwhich. Let my daughter drop the golden egg into the soup.
Reminds me of being a kid and my mom cooking it and making me a sandwhich. Seems comforting in a way since she passed on last year. It reminds me of happier times, even just the smell of it.
I dunno, seems weird how food can tie us back to things (especially recipies we keep from those we loved).

1. I have alot of memories tied to food. |
|
My Mom used to make me "ants on a log": celery with peanut butter scooped into the middle and raisin "ants" crawling on it.
Popcorn- ate it every Friday night, while I lay on the big black pillow and watched "Dallas" with my Mom.
I remember eating baked potatoes with real butter and watching the nightly news. I had a crush on Tom Brokaw, of all people.
Not so nice; I remember eating canned plums when I was five, and the phone rang and my Mom found out her brother had killed himself. I remember dripping tears into the bowl and continuing to eat it, anyway.

How eating or cooking something now jars me at times. The other day I was making scalloped potatoes and was not sure how mom always made it. I thought "I'll have to call mom and ask...." and quickly started to cry. I made them not only because I like them but it is something that ties me to her and better times, and when I cannot remember how she made something it makes me long dearly for her - just frustrating.
