WAAH! My new kitty is missing!
Went out of town for three days for the holiday. Had a friend come by daily to feed the cats and give them some loving. Molly, my 5-month old kitten, hasn't been seen since Friday. She's been using the cat door, but never strayed further than the next-door neighbor's yard.

We've put up signs all around the neighborhood and hope somebody will call soon. Sigh.... she's about the most perfect cat I've ever met.

3. she just may be throwing a tantrum
for leaving her. Give her some time, she may come back once she realizes you are home.

16. Yep ...
we have a cat that will disappear for days at a time. As it turns out she has been moonlighting at a neighbors house way down the road. They actually thought she was a stray until another neighbor identified her as ours.

But, this is a grown cat who knows where her home is. As for a kitten ? hmmmm.....

Cheers
Drifter

5. too bad
we have had, where I live, a few disappearances of pet cats. One owner actually saw a Fisher attack his cat, and kill it.

"fisher, name of a large North American marten, Martes pennanti. This carnivorous, largely arboreal mammal is found in hardwood forests of Canada, the extreme N United States, and mountain ranges of the W United States. Fishers have dark brown fur shading to black and frosted with white-tipped hairs. Males are over 3 ft (90 cm) long, including the bushy tail, which may reach 15 in. (38 cm), and weigh 6 to 12 lb (1.8–3.6 kg); females weigh about half as much. Active both by night and by day, on the ground and in trees, the fisher makes its den in a hollow tree or a hole in the ground. It feeds on small mammals, birds, carrion, and fruits. Despite its name, it does not catch fish, although it will eat them. It is one of the few animals that eats porcupines, which it attacks by striking at the unprotected underparts. The fisher is not abundant and is difficult to trap; its beautiful fur brings high prices. Once considered threatened with extinction, fishers are now increasing in numbers. They are classified in the phylum Chordata, subphylum Vertebrata, class Mammalia, order Carnivora, family Mustelidae."The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition Copyright © 2003, Columbia University Press. I have seen the fisher here , traipsing across my field a few times. I hope your kitten will return.

7. Molly
You may want to check the shelters, in case anyone found her & took her there.

8. Sorry to hear that -- I remember you posting about getting her.
The usual advice applies -- on Monday, make sure you call the kill shelters within ten miles. After that, call the no-kills -- see if anybody has a lost and found directory. See if your local newspaper has a lost and found, and post a classified. Veterinarians are also a good resource -- people will sometimes drop off a 'found cat' at a vet's office, especially if they're not from the area (like at holidays).

Check with your neighbors, too. Sometimes, people will take in a cat that's wandered and never tell anybody, and months later the people who lost the cat will discover it's been living with a neighbor.

Put up 'lost cat' signs anywhere you can -- the store, a community center, phone poles if it's not illegal.

Though some will say 'wait around to see if she shows up,' you actually want to get people around you keeping an eye out as soon as you can, because cats will eventually wander out of their neighborhoods.

Good luck -- hope you find her!

10. Thanks...
yes, we've already plastered the neighborhood with signs. There's only one animal shelter in the area, and Molly is micro-chipped. They scan all incoming animals for these chips, so if she shows up there, they'll call me.

She's exceptionally friendly so I'm hoping she just was taken in by some kind-hearted person who will see the signs and give me a call.

14. Call the shelter anyway!
Sadly, there have been accounts of lazy and/or incompetent shelter workers not noticing that a pet had been microchipped.

:-(

9. Sending good
homing beacon thoughts your way. One of my cats always disappears when we go away. She's always come back when I'm at my wits end.

When she returns get her fixed. She'sgetting to the age whee she might be trolling for some action.

my other cats have done this, too, but this is Molly's first time, so I'm just not sure she knows her way home. Sigh...

12. Look closer to home rather than further away
Mine have roamed gotten out a few times, have been gone for as much as three days and usually haven't gone more than a block when I finally find them. Also, have you tried putting food out in the evening and early in the morning? Although it usually attracts ALL the neighborhood cats, sometimes you get lucky with that. (Or you wind up with a whole yard full of new friends :-) )

13. If you get Molly back
also get a collar and tag for her. A lot of people who see an untagged animal will assume it doesn't belong to anyone. And consider making her a full-time indoor cat. It really is the best thing.
