Anyone following Funky Winkerbean - great comic arc about the war!!
You can tell Tom Batiuk, the creater of Funky Winkerbean definately isn't a republican. He's taken on such hot topics as the war, Intelligent Design, free speech and even the death penalty.

Young Wally, one of the characters in Funky Winkerbean, has already served time in Afghanistan and the strip even took us through the PTSS he suffered afterwards and when he and his new wife took their honeymoon back to Afghanistan where they worked with a anti-Landmine organization (they even adopted an abandoned girl from Aghanistan).

Well turns out Wally, even though all he's been through with being MIA and the suffering he's dealt with after the war, was 2 days short on his enlistment and they're calling him back.

It's always great to see these comic artists tackle the real world instead of the space fillers like Family Circus and Mallard Fillmore.

Might I suggest everyone check out Funky!

1. Funky is still being written?
I haven't seen a Funky Winkerbean comic in YEARS. I always liked it.

2. Yes, they're all grown up now.
I read the comics every day. Wouldn't buy a newspaper that didn't have any.

3. I don't buy the newspaper here much at all...
The Statesman isn't my favorite newspaper (of course, they don't carry Funky anyway). The Minneapolis paper dropped Funky a long time ago. Too bad they run so many crummy comics these days!

5. I always read it but my brother got one of those letters in June.
It's a definite shock when it happens.

6. My bro-in-law heads to Afghanistan in April
for about six months, then on to Iraq. Even though he's a full Colonel, he's a Security Officer and will be right on the front line.
