The Olympics are really a yawner.

With the world seemingly going nuts, on all levels, seeing who can do what the quickest really seems silly. I realize for those that are participating it is a big deal, but, with war, hatred and death that is abroad in the world, the GAMES seem a little banal.

1. It is the Winter olympics
you can't just go out and do any of these events. You need snow or ice and you need the equipment and so forth.

For many of us we didn't grow up doing or knowing anyone who did these events, that cuts the audience down precipitously.

That being said I still like watching them. I have some common sense ways to completely alter events such as the halfpipe but those would probably be not very well received.

Oh well only what 5 days left until the womens' skating BEGINS!!!

3. Solution: Watch more curling.
I wish I was kidding. I've been watching a lot of curling, and it looks like fun. I'd like to try it someday. Hey, I can sweep & slide as good as the next guy.

4. Are you kidding me?
All of the reasons you stated for the games being banal are EXACTLY the reason these games are of most importance. It gives people a little hope, a reason to set aside differences for a little while and just smile. It gives people a sense of renewed pride in their countries and it gives everyone a reason to put down their weapons for a moment and just be people again.
