Edited on Sun Feb-19-06 03:05 AM by jpgray
I was dubbed "Jage" for some vaguely phonetic reason.

From a kid's song. My mother thought it was funny and my dad went along with it. It has, of course, totally traumatized me.

9. Yeah
the "Khash was traumatized as a child and can't be held responsible for himself" excuse just ain't working is it?

I need to rethink it and come up with better excuses....

But my parents did call me "bimbo" for years......

37. My parents called me "Keydoll Cap"
Which was a bastardization of my name, as pronounced by my baby brother, at the time. Until he was born, I was called "Peek Eye."

I think silly nicknames are fascinating. I currently call my son "Keen," and it has a distinct etymology:

Muffin Man
Pumpkin Man
Pumpkin Boy
Pumpkin Bleen
Bleen
Bleenie
Bleen-eye
Bleen-eye-ta-keen-eye
T'keen-eye
T'keen
Keen

It's really stupid, but I'm willing to see how far it goes. I used to call my ex-boyfriend "Bunny Head," and it made him crazy. I made up songs.

This was because I was a rather hairy baby and allegedly reminded them of Pogo the Possum...

Not a great nickname to have if you move to Canada (as I eventually) did. Up here, "Being on the Pogey (sic)" means you're on welfare... Doh!

46. We were not a nick-name type of family
One of my sisters was called Weener (her name is Jean) for a long time. I stopped doing it when she told me in a very matter of fact way that she did not like it.

Other than her, no one else in my family has a nick-name.

I think it's cool when families have cute names only they call one another. It denotes a closeness of sorts.

Mine was Tub when I was just 2 or 3. Long story. OK not so long, just ... OH alright.

The family went up to Ontario to visit relatives, and every time I saw a pond or a lake or a river, I hollered out "tub" asking if it was a bathtub.

45 years later and I still haven't lived it down.
