A question for cat experts...
Edited on Thu Feb-23-06 08:09 PM by JonathanChance
What sort of cats are prominent in the Middle east, specifically Saudi Arabia?

I need this information for my mdern d20 campaign, where eventually their party will be joined by a Cat Folk sniper from Saudi Arabia.

1. The Turks love their Angoras...
I understand that persians are quite popular.

They have a beautiful little wildcat...the sand cat.
Here's a pic:

2. Wow! Those are some incredibly gorgeous kitties
:P

What about Abyssinians, are they from that region?

The looks of an Abyssinian would fit the context of what he wants really well too. They look sleek and conniving enough to be snipers or assassins :P

6. When I was in Israel in 1973

there were stray cats running around that looked like Abyssinians. One of them "adopted" me and would follow me all over the place. Cute little thing. I would share my food with her, she would eat just about anything.

I had never had a cat before.

4. The name "tabby" comes from a neighborhood in Baghdad!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabby

The word comes from French tabis, which was earlier atabis, and in medieval Latin attabi. The initial origin of the word seems to be from the Attabiyah section of Baghdad where a type of striped silk was made that was later used to describe cats.

Note that the "M" on the tabby's forehead is an upside-down "W" :-) Let's hope Bush**co's war hasn't reduced "Tabby Town" to rubble :scared:
