Has anybody used Microsoft's Explorer Seven ?

I downloaded it today at work to try to cure some of our internet problems. It mostly is like a mix of Firefox and Safari. The there's the Flock-like forward and back buttons. I thought about switching to 7 earlier, but didn't want to use a "beta" for work but then decided that all Microsoft products are basically in a "beta" stage anyway. I think when mainline Microsoft customers start to use this new browser they're going to be confused by the changes. The toolbars are designed much better than previous versions but are grouped differently. Anyhow, the new version still didn't get rid of the file of a blank screen on our homepage I can't seem to get rid of. I switched to MSN as a homepage and that overrode it, but now I have that nasty AOL-like MSN browser.

And another bitch. I hate late model HP computers. Of all the Wintel clone computer makers, HP adds the most of their own crummy software and who knows what else. I bet it's HP software keeping that blank homepage on my Explorer browser. I bet it's HP software that crashes my Firefox twenty times a day because of a Shockwave plug-in, I keep installing to no effect. On another HP computer, every time I installed Real Media, my camera wouldn't download pictures into the computer. I guess they figure they can keep steering their PC customers to those profitable high dollar printers and printer cartridges they're so famous for. I never had problems like this on a Gateway, E-Machine, Dell, any anonymous beige box.

1. Sounds like you have a bunch of crap installed.

Either you installed one too many browser trinkets, or you've picked up some adware/spyware/malware through your browser. When was the last time you wiped your hard drive and reinstalled everything?

2. It actually supports PNG alpha transparency...

So at least they got ONE thing right, I guess.

4. I can already see transparent PNGs correctly.

5. Yeah, IE is a few years behind the curve.

As a web designer, it was one of the many reasons I loathe IE.

IE is much more forgiving of HTML errors.

8. For professional work, yeah.

…but I often use HTML the way some people use text files (recipes, notes, etc.). It just looks nicer. For quick 'n dirty stuff for myself, IE is nice, but Firefox is still my default browser.

That's a flaw, and it encourages people to write intentionally bad HTML.
