Even when I'm only reading a little and not posting much, anywhere else I go on the internets, I see "news" that I read two days ago on DU! And things that get posted to my other board I'm on regularly almost always have already been discussed here :)

DU folks are so on top of the news, it's amazing.

One of the things I like the best is that I feel like it is a haven in the midst of a very crazy world. When I first read DU, I truly felt I had come home.

And of course, the absolute BEST thing about DU are the people -- funny, intelligent, thoughtful, kind, caring, etc. Yes, sometimes we get on each other about things, but what family doesn't?

The people here are so wonderful. I now have a whole bunch of new friends and several I hang out with whom I have met right here on DU. I feel so safe with these people.

And their incredible depth and diversity of knowledge. For example, when the story broke that CHENEY SHOT A 78-YEAR-OLD MAN IN THE FACE there were plenty of hunters who gave us the 411 on shot size and distance and appropriate hunting behavior well before the newsmedia got any of it straight. I'm no hunting fan but I was pretty impressed with the DU hunters then.
