HawkerHurricane's NFL Power Ratings! |
|
Welcome once again to HawkerHurricane’s NFL power rating. The system is TWO points for every win, and one point for every win your opponents have... Last weeks placement in Parens(). Current division leaders are marked with a d next to their rank, wild cards with a w. Teams eliminated from the playoffs get a x. Teams with clinched playoff spots get a capital letter. Teams uneliminated (is that a word?) and without playoff spots will be given a number indicating how far out they are.
And, by popular demand (one person), my comments are back!
Rank Team points record comment
32(32) Chargers 15 2-10/x The future Los Angeles Chargers? LA doesn't want them!
31(30) Falcons 16 2-10/x No Vick, No Hope.
30(31) Jaguars 22 3-9/x Eliminated.
29(28) Raiders 22 3-9/x How low can they go?
28(24) Browns 23 4-8/4 Slim chance.
27(25) Cardinals 24 3-9/x How'd they get ranked higher than the Browns?
26(29) Lions 25 4-8/4 No comment, I'm tired of being flamed.
25(23) Steelers 29 4-8/4 Too bad.
24(26) Bears 29 5-7/3 Just wait 'til next year!
23(19) Redskins 33 4-8/4 Is the future here yet?
22(18) Giants 33 4-8/4 No joy in New Yawk.
21(27) Jets 35 5-7/3 I mean, none.
20(22) Saints 35 6-6/2 Ain'ts keep trying.
19(20) Texans 36 5-7/3 Not bad for an expansion team.
18(16) 49rs 37 5-7/3 Fans tell me that next year... I don't see it.
17(21) Bills 38 5-7/3 I had hopes.
16(15) Buccaneers 38 5-7/3 Unlike the Raiders, the Bucs are at least trying.
15(17) Broncos 39 7-5/1 2nd best in the division isn't saying much.
14(12) Packers 46 6-6/2 Is Farve a genius, or past his prime?
13(14) Ravens 46 7-5/d Leading a tight division by a hair.
12(11) Vikings 47 7-5/d If they continue to collapse, they'll give the Pack the division.
11(6) Cowboys 54 8-4/w Big loss to the 'phins.
10(13) Dolphins 54 8-4/w Big win against the 'boys.
9(10) Bengals 55 7-5/1 Bengals tied for first. BENGALS?
8(9) Seahawks 56 8-4/w 'hawks continue to play tough.
7(5) Panthers 57 8-4/d I must watch this team.
6(8) Rams 60 9-3/d Go Rams! And take the Clippers with you!
5(4) Titans 60 9-3/w Loss hurt rankings, nothing else.
4(7) Eagles 62 9-3/d Eagles quality of the NFC.
3(3) Colts 68 9-3/d Tough loss didn't hurt rankings.
2(2) Chiefs 70 11-1/D Clinched division; but look at thier opponents.
1(1) Patriots 88 10-2/d Frightening point total.
Based on what I have... Patriots over Chiefs for AFC championship. Eagles over Rams for NFC. Patriots over Eagles in the Super Patriotic Bowl. BUT Any given Sunday, and it will be decided in the field.

1. Chiefs didn't clinch division yet.. |
|
They have to beat the Broncos to do that, and they're not gonna do that next week.

One win by the Chiefs, one loss by the Broncos will clinch it for the Chiefs.

Easily the cream of the NFC and I believe they're way better than the Colts. Manning inevitably will choke...

based on your record and the record of the people you've beaten. Beating a better team gets you a better record. THe Eagles will probably represent the NFC in the Superbowl, but good luck with winning it.

But they'll take the title outright this Sunday. Only a smidgen premature.

The game is not at Arrowhead and when the Broncos played them there the Chiefs weren't that impressive. It's on the road, the Chiefs 8th worst defense and the fact they are not real strong on the road equals a Bronco Victory.

But this Chiefs team is not impossible especially on the road, the is still the same Chefs team the Broncos swept last year, a team with a highpower offense and a weak defense. Plus this team is not very strong on the road, the only team they blown out was the Texans.

|
Heck, Denver would probably actually have a chance at the playoffs if they didn't keep score and judged the game solely by how pretty the teams were.
Hall must have covered about 150 yards on that runback, and he STILL outran the entire Bronco coverage team.

They lost to the Bengals on the road, beat the Raiders by one yard, beat the Chargers by 4 points, and so on. They have barely pulled ahead of teams on the road which is why they aren't strong on the road. This is somewhat the same team the Rams had, a highpower offense, vulnerable defense, near unbeatable at home, and not very strong on the road. I will defend that statement.

44. No surprise about how they are... |

Dick Vermiel built the Rams;, he built the Chiefs. I don't know about being weak on the road; weaker certainly, but weaker is not weak. I did not see the other games, but against the Chargers they got lazy toward the end and let the Chargers get within shouting distance only to slam the door.

Which is why the 'Hawks will drop like a meteor in the coming weeks. And I'll drop my kudos to those Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks for defeating top ranked McNeese State in the first round of the NCAA Div. I-AA football playoffs. Hey, it's their first I-AA playoff win in history! Now they face Howard Schnellenberger and his Florida Atlantic U Owls in the Skydome in Flagstaff! Go 'Jacks! Since KC will have a first round bye, that means they'll face in all likelihood the Ravens or the Bengals, both of whom will have played the week before, and neither of whom have looked particularly fearsome on the road. But as I said, talk is cheap -- how about $5 to DU that the Chiefs will make the AFC title game?

They are quite a surprise this year. But being from New England, I am not even convinced they will make the playoffs until they make the playoffs. But still Look at the teams they beat. They have an average Power rating of 46.9(better then Ravens) compared to the Cheif's 30.1(worse then The Redskins).

No hope in NY, I mean NONE ROFLMAO.
Surprises in store for the playoffs, especially in the AFC I think. I think the Chiefs are overrated based on who they've been playing against, and wouldn't be surprised to see them knocked out somewhere in the playoffs, even given the toughness of playing in Arrowhead.
The AFC playoffs are all that matters the NFC is a joke this year (as it should be)

35. Super Bowls have seen few big upsets. |
|
Jets over the Colts Bucs over the Raiders Patriots over Packers Come to mind.
But, Mr. AFC fan, remember that the first Superbowls were almost all NFL/NFC victories.... Packers Colts (former NFL/NFC) Cowboys Steelers (former NFL) The NFL/NFC and the former NFL teams still dominate. I say the Patriots are favorites, but I wouldn't put money on any of them. Eagles and Rams and Panthers all look good; as do Chiefs and Colts. Any Given Sunday. If the Rams can get Home Field in the playoffs, I pick them. Otherwise, Eagles. Patriots are the best AFC right now, but there are many 'also rans' for the list.
