20. lol One silver medal....whoo hoo....
And wait until June we will dazzle them in the World Cup too, I am sure.....after all well have David Beckham and Wayne Rooney so the World Cup should be ours

One of the benefits of not doing well at The Olympics, Wimbledon etc, is the coverage of the sports is full and unbiased. It is almost a relief when Tim Henman losses because other people get talked about.

35. What did the Brits win the silver medal in?
I didn't follow the Olympics much at all this time. I used to be a huge fan (and that was the only sports I'd ever watch), but the arrogance of many of the American athletes (like that tremendous ass from Texas -- Chad Hedrick) and the jingoism of the U.S. broadcast coverage have turned me off completely ... :(

5. Why not enjoy sports in between
that doesn't mean I am not noticing what else is going on in the world. But it for sure is a good way to relax and not worry all the time.

24. I still noticed the great Tonbridge Heist,,,,(£60 million pound robbery)
Plus whilst I watched winter sports I somehow became aware of:
Arsenal beating Real Madrid (Soccer)
Andy Murray winning his first major tennis title
The bombing of a Mosque and Iraq heading for civil war
The scandal of US ports and the UAE
THe Lib Dem leadership campaign
The vote to ban abortion is South Dakota
Liz Hurley may be pregnant
Brokeback Mountain doing well at the Bafta's
George Clooney's eternally good looks, what are gracing two fine movies
Madonna getting to No1 in the UK singles charts again

It is amazing what a girl can learn while watch the Super G, Ice Dancing and Ice Hockey. Maybe it was still possible to
still read a newspaper, watch the news etc.

I cried during the closing ceremony. The mayor of Vancouver is and inspiration. To me the Olympics represent one thing that is GOOD and PURE and HONEST about this world. It is us at our BEST.

6. It should be
unfortunately there are still athletes who think they need to dope. Which gives it a bad taste. But overall I agree with you. The world comes together at one place and nothing else matters but sports. A peaceful competition.

and Vancouver looks like it is going to be a great place to host the next Olympics. They showed some of it on the German TV. The landscape ... :wow:

7. If you enjoyed them you must not have been watching them in the states
NBC has a tendency to screw up the Olympic coverage by basically showing you just those sports that the US could medal in and then mainly just US competitors and a few people who might actually beat them.

I use to love the Olympics too but as long as NBC has the rights to broadcast them, I'm just not enjoying them like I use to!

9. They had a good coverage at ARD and ZDF
the main public TV stations in Germany and Europsorts. They showed all important sports and from the quarter finals till the finals no matter if there were Germans involved or not. So I guess I was lucky :)

28. Northern Louisiana
I am in Shreveport area.

This was many years ago and we were watching German TV. My husband never watched so much sports in his life as he did that summer!
I lived in Germany 7 years and enjoyed the Springs and Summer but found it very depressing in the winter.I still put geraniums in my window boxes in memory of good times there. My two sons were born in Nuernberg and Frankfurt.

12. Next Olympics I'm moving in with you so I can enjoy the sport
so what if I can't speak German. I figured we'll know what country they're from and it'll be easy to read the totals since we all use the same numbering system.

The lack of ability to understand what the announcers are saying is probably a bonus in my book!

17. I loved them
In the UK we are fortunate because we have The Commomwealth Games this year that are being held in Melbourne. That has the usual Athletics, swimming, gymnastics etc. The Aussies tend to dominate the swimming but it is good to watch and it doesn't quite have the commericalism that American involvment can bring to The Olympics.
There is also the Football World Cup this year in Germany which will be the biggest, most passionate sporting event this year, through out the world. I love the big sporting events, the drama is better than any film.

25. Yes but stay out the Irish Pub when Ireland plays.....
I remember four years ago, lots of roaring drunk Irish men getting on to a bus, it was about mid-day on a Sunday and the match was an early one. One of the stops was outisde an Irish pub. But I prefer drunken Irish men, to drunken men or women from England and Scotland.

I maybe in France this year which will make it interesting, watching it in French bars and no BBC commentry.

23. I used to do them myself.
I'm trying to get in shape so that I can do them again.

My brother said that, if I feel comfortable on a pair of rollerblades this fall he'd fight for me to join his street hockey league. It's mostly men who seem to think that women are "too delicate" to play. He's one of the roughest players in the league and plans to tell them that I taught him how to play like that as the big argument for me joining the team.

I'd also love to join the club rugby here. I've never played but bet I could learn quickly! There is only one other woman playing so I might have a fight on my hands(or a drinking contest w/ bets-we'll see how they pick their teams).

I love to watch too-speedskating, short track, luge, skeleton, bobsled and hockey. I'm not a figure skating fan but the little one and I watched a bit of it together this year.

27. I live in a college town.
You are more likely to see small leagues in a college town and in large cities than in smaller areas, but it is still not the norm.

I've read up on it, watched them play and think I might be ready by this fall. My brother has offered to help me out and teach me what he knows, since he plays club rugby.

For a girl, I tend to gravitate toward the more violent sports.

I really love watching them (both Winter and Summer). Especially so this time; they really took my mind off all the crap the Bush maladministration has caused in the world. Now it's back to reality, sadly.
