And it was pretty solid for a directorial debut.

46. You are right. It looked, smelled and tasted like an honest movie but |
|
wasn't really. Portman was cute and carried the pic along with nice imagery and a decent soundtrack. But ulitmately, it was a phony piece of garbage that borrowed heavily from The Graduate and some other flicks. At least a film like a Gary Busey action pic does not pretend to be something else.

24. Yup, I thought is was OK |

but it bashed you over the head with its quirkiness...the motorcycle with sidecar, cute girl who's a compusive liar, and "Listen to this: it's The Shins. They'll change your life." You're hip...you're smart...you're troubled...you're sensitive. I get it!

The Shins thing...
I even posted a thread about what do you do when someone says this is the greatest song it will change your life and you don't get it.... Obviously he didn't get it....
The sidecar thing was a great symbol... That he was willing to only go so far to be out on the edge....

47. the main character was diagnosed as md by his father- |
|
he had been on meds since he was a child- it was difficult for me to see him go off of meds (a dangerous thing to do for anyone with md) but the way it was handled was masterful. I also loved the way their relationship was developed (Braff and Portman's) two oddball's finding each other, and in doing so, finding themselves.

I think that is left open ended. He wanted to be off meds for a while to see how he felt, his new psychiatrist thought it was a risk, but also supported the idea that he may have been misdiagnosed. The behavior changes he had after stopping meds could have been early mania, I think it was left open for interpretation.
My interpretation was hopeful that he never needed meds again, and that was difficult for me. It often crosses my mind, esp. when my mom is in psychosis, that maybe if we just stopped all the meds she'd be okay- I really want something to blame besides her broken mind. But then I remember what it was like before the meds.
it was just a poignant look at depression, and growing up, and relationships- at least for me it was. I loved that movie.

Then it became some sort of horrible weepy chick flick for oversensitive males. In fact, the contrast was so jarring it gave me whiplash.
But that first hour was pretty good.

but apparently there was a skit on SNL with Pete Sarsgaard (that's what all his close friends, like me, call him) marketing a product called The Peter Sarsgaard SARS Guard....I laughed my ass off. I know nothing else of this joke but the pun alone is brilliant...in a goofy kind of way.
