Post A Photo Of A Celebrity Who Is NOT Holding Up Very Well At ALL...
You know... the ones who've definitely seen better days.

Here's one that comes to mind.
If I didn't tell you... Would you know who this was without looking at the answer (BELOW)

It's... Brigitte Bardot!

72. I don't mean to offend you LostInVA but Brigitte Bardot gets no sympathy
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 10:19 PM by socialdemocrat1981
from me

Her ongoing endorsement for Jean Marie Le Pen’s National Front and her history of homophobia and racism and right wing extremism eroded any sympathy I had for her. It is incredible to me that someone who has such a humanitarian and compassionate view toward animals (an admirable quality) can be so callous, intolerant and bigoted when it comes to her fellow human beings.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigitte_Bardot

I much prefer Catherine Deneuve –a beautiful woman, talented actress and a UNESCO goodwill ambassador. Having said that, it isn't Bardot's looks that make her unattractive -and I don't judge her on that because I'm not much to look at myself -it's a question of personality

... that is all. For a woman who is known for her "sex-kitten" beauty and sex appeal, I think ridiculing her haggard and disheveled appearance now is very appropriate. If you caught me going around ridiculing EVERY old person for having wrinkles and going gray, then perhaps you'd have a point, but I think you're being entirely too defensive and too sympathetic to that crusty old bitch.

Are you sick of skinny blond bashing when people make fun of Ann Coulter's bleached-blond, anorexic, masculine looks? Same thing.

38. Hey, if you want to mount a campaign...
...against an aging, has-been actress because she thinks differently from you - go for it.

Keep in mind that people have the right to be homophobic, racist, sexist. They have the right to say so, too.

You want to boycott her movies, go right ahead. I doubt there are many that were released in the last 30 years.

If you want to be mad at someone, why not someone like Adam Carolla, who spews idiotic Anti-Asian bigotry on his puerile radio show in the present-day. He actually has an audience. A tiny one, but at least he is working.

39. Of course she has the right to be that way
And I have the right to think it's disgusting. I find it interesting, though, that first you questioned her bigotry, and now you're basically giving it a pass, despite the fact that she released a book not that long ago, and is still in the public eye (Especially because, as you yourself pointed out, she's an activist for animal rights).

I don't 'get' how it's better to be angry at someone bigoted who's on your radar screen, but it's somehow mounting a campaign against someone else to point out the very public and disgusting things they say.

40. I think it's fine to point it out.
But Arwalden started off the thread by making it about her looks, which seems to me like a campaign to bash some old woman for her looks because you don't like her beliefs. If his problem was with her bigotry, that's what he should have gone after. Who cares if she's got a few wrinkles?

As for Bardot's bigotry - I had honestly never heard of any such a thing. I don't question it, I just find it surprising and incongruous with an animal-rights stance. Her animal rights work has been high-profile, and yet I've never heard about the other stuff, which makes me inclined to believe that animal rights, not anti-gay crusades, is her primary focus for activism. If that's the case, I see no reason to try and detract from her good work by ragging on her for personal beliefs.

The other example - Carolla, has consistently used demeaning stereotypes, without any of the good works Bardot is known for, which is why I think someone like him would be a better target for ire.

Still, it looks to me like she's getting a bit "eccentric" in her old age. It's too bad she's become so nasty, but I can also understand how an older person would feel distressed if their country was being overrun by hordes of foreigners and they saw the culture they grew up in dissolving around them. The French are well-known for being protective of their culture, to the point of discouraging the use of foreign words in the vernacular.

I guess It's because I had a wonderful grandmother who used to use racial language that I would never use. I tend to cut old people a bit of slack on such things, as long as they are just running their mouths and not trying to pass backward legislation, etc.

I have a hard time giving anyone a pass. Sure, I'm LESS hard on my grandmother than on, say, my sister. But she still doesn't get a pass on being a racist shit head. Period.

101. Smoking Gun photos shouldn't count (much)
The Vince Vaughn photo downthread is from a fan, presumable.

I gotta say, sans makeup, Madonna, Goldie, and Yasmine Bleeth still look pretty good, IMHO as a straight femme.

My mother in law says he's pickled and will never die. Which isn't far from the truth.

Here he is as a young man. BIG difference, huh?

103. How about Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin?
I don't know how to post pictures, but he's really looking bad.
My wife thinks that he may have a medical condition, such as arthritis, and is on steroids.
Jimmie Page of Led Zeppelin and Pete Townsend of The Who aren't looking all that great, either.

I used to find him very sexy (tall always gets to me), but sheez, I have 11 years on him and I've aged way more gracefully.

80. nah, just very bad plastic surgery...
she's had cheek implants, and something very bad was done to her nose. Probably had a bad eye lift too, as one is higher than the other. Very sad, as she was so beautiful, IMHO.

82. To her credit...
...she hasn't fallen prey to the ridiculous plastic surgery that so many other celebrities of a certain age have.

Imagine what Cher, Liz Taylor, Meg Ryan, Liza Minnelli, et al would look like if they let nature take its course.

I don't know, there's something graceful about the way she's aging.

I much prefer the company of animals to humans.

91. Guess it is time for some quotes from BB
Since the majority of this thread got hijacked into a discussion of her character;

http://www.indybay.org/news/2003/05/1610376_comment.php

"I do not hold religious Muslims in high esteem," she concedes in her introduction, and throughout the book her deepest wrath is reserved for the "Islamisation" of France and -- her particular bete noire -- the Muslim ritual of animal sacrifice at Eid el-Kebir.

and

"All those 'youths' who terrorise the population, rape young girls, train pit-bulls for attack ... spit on the police -- they are the ones who at the smallest signal from their chiefs will suddenly put us through the same kind of thing that happened in a Moscow theatre."

and

There are plenty of other targets for Bardot's unflinching abuse -- notably modern gays who, unlike her own dignified homosexual friends, "jiggle their bottoms, put their little fingers in the air and with their little castrato voices moan about what those ghastly heteros put them through."

Fortunately, I never really was a fan. Sure she was gorgeous, but she wasn't really much of an actress. To me, someone like Joanne Woodward is talented, beautiful, inside and out and still to this day.
