Don't know if other areas in the country have this, but our largest grocery chain gives you fuel-perks for grocery purchases (and even dry cleaning done through them).

When you have a big family food bill and lots of dry cleaning like I do (and even gift card purchases for other businesses like Best Buy, Borders, etc.) and you buy it all at this grocery chain, you quickly rack up the fuel perks.

I paid $1.27 per gallon today on a nearly empty tank. What would have cost me almost $30 ended up being only $16.

Supposedly, the big gas giant stations are challenging this setup in PA court but, while I good thing last, I'm loving it.:D

3. in a lot of states that is illegal
I know Maryland, for instance, has a floor on gas sales (you have to make something like 6 cents per gallon above your wholesale cost) it's to prevent the superstores from simply putting everyone else out of business.

4. I got a free fill-up from fuel perks!
The cashier at big bird (Giant Eagle) reminded us last time that our perks were going to expire. We ran the tank down pretty low and filled up for free -- we hadn't used our fuel perks in a while.

I didn't hear that this was being challenged. If big bird loses, it will suck; I'd rather save money on gas than to get a free turkey at thanksgiving (which used to be their giveaway).
