Has anyone out there had an internet romance?
By that I mean one the started on the net and at some point you actually met? Just wondering cause that is how I met my partner of 10 years. It was actually a very romantic (and scary) way to meet.

1. Yes
Probably would have met the person eventually anyway but this way we knew we were both single and looking.

2. Yep...that's how I met my guy.
I met Doug on a gay message board (theadvocate.com) and we took an immediate liking to each other. We talked on the phone and were more and more attracted to each other. We then met in person and fell in love.

9. I found the meeting part scary.
After the initial attraction I was freaked out that there would be no chemistry. Thankfully, there was plenty.

:)

16. Oh, I was sort of scared before our meeting.
You're just so unsure. It's the final hurdle...that first meeting. Luckily, it went beautifully. :-)

3. Yep
but, we never had an "internet romance."

We met on DU; didn't even know what each other looked like before we met to discuss how awful Shrub is....I didn't even bother to wash my hair. I knew that was a mistake when he walked in the door!

4. Yes...it didn't work out
In this case she led me on. I'm not saying that an internet romance can't work, but there's a lot of things that get in the way of it working, not the least of which is the screen is not a good way to really see who someone is. Written words can only carry a certain amount of information, and in the case of a developing romance it is human nature to fill in the blanks about the other person with your desires of who you want them to be.

6. Depends on what you mean.
I met Vash the Gal on match.com, but we spent almost no time exchanging emails before we met in person.

7. Since '95
We met on match.com, back in its first days when it was free. A few weeks later, we met in person and realized we should probably marry while on that first date. We didn't actually announce the engagement for a few months, and didn't marry until a year after we met.

But it's permanent. We're very happy.

We met on Usenet, before the world wide web had been together.

I was on one coast, she was on the other.

11. I just met someone on actforlove last month
She viewed my profile and added me to her hotlist, I noticed that she did, messaged her a few times and we hit it off. Been calling each other every few nights for the last week and a half. We'll probably meet soon. I'm a little nervous, of course. I make her laugh uncontrollably, haha, and she seems fantastic. I figure we'll meet here pretty soon and figure out what the deal is. That's where it's at right now. First time I ever did anything like this though. It just so happened that I was bored one night and saw the site advertised here on DU and clicked on it. I whipped up a quick profile and that was that. :)

18. Yes! Met my husband right here in the Lounge!
We PM'd for about a month, then started calling. After two months we met face to face. After six months we were engaged. Now we've been happily married for two years!

Yes, it was a scary way to meet (for him anyway). We met for the first time in the hotel lobby. He was terrified that I would really turn out to be a 14 year old!

I do know someone who met her boyfriend on line, and they've been together for 6 years or longer, I think they finally ended up getting married, but don't know for sure, I lost touch with them a while back.
