What to listen to after Dead Can Dance? |
|
After not listening to them much for a long time, in the past two months I've added DCD's Spiritchaser and Serpent's Egg CDs to my collection, joing my copies of Aion & Into the Labyrinth. I now remember why I liked this band so much. For the life of me I can't remember why I bought the ItL disc in the first place, it was a long time ago and none of my friends were fans.
So, now what? Can any DCD fans suggest other artists that would be worth checking out? Something along the lines of Tony Levin's stuff would be nice to find too.

12. Wasn't there some cannibalism in that band? |
|
Didn't one of them commit suicide, followed by another band member cooking and eating parts of him?
What is it about Norway that produced so many weird-ass death metal bands, I wonder...

4. The Legendary Wolfgand Press and Other Tall Stories... |
|
...their best album. (Later on, wolfgang press recorded some real shit, but this album is great.)
Also, This Mortal Coil or Dif Juz.
I was a huge 4AD head in high school.

If you can still hear after listening to Dead Can Dance, turn up the volume and play it again.

I recall seeing DCD live on the Spiritchaser tour at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. Absolutely amazing. Also saw Brendan Perry do a solo show at the Great American Music hall in SF

8. Fairport Convention: Liege and Lief |
|
The classic electric trad album, with Sandy Denny's vocal. (Everything Sandy Denny sang is worth listening to.) Richard Thompson was in the band back then too (and of course his records are also wonderful).
