One of the things I love about my neighborhood is that a holiday can't pass, nor can a sickness or a death in the family without the neighborhood FEEDING YOU!
When I had my surgery a few years back, I had so many wonderful neighbors thinking of me, I didn't have to cook for three weeks.
My neighbor came by tonight with two dozen tamales...12 chicken and green chili and 12 of the one I am enjoying now...a sweet strawberry tamale....
I'm in heaven!

That reminds me. I haven't make them in a long time. My son-in-law positively inhales them when I do make them.

6. No, but I know about them. |
|
In Chile they make them with ordinary corn husks, but they call them humitas. The filling is slightly different too. Here,I make them Mexican style though with the masa. The Chilean version is done with fresh corn and frankly the American corn doesn't translate as well.

9. Mmm...green corn tamales are the best, but I've heard that they're... |
|
...very labor intensive. There are two or three places here that make great green corn tamales. One even ships them out, packed in dry ice, all over the country.

13. Tease! I'll suffer through till Thursday. |

A farmer's market sets up next to my office building in Century City every Thursday, and there's an awesome (and affordable) tamale stand. I like...well, I like ALL of them, but my faves are the cheese and green chile, and the pinapple. Yum.

14. Oh GAWD I love pineapple tamales |
|
with raisins! One of my employees used to bring those in...but these strawberry ones are pink through and through so I had a chicken one for dinner and a strawberry one for dessert...she came by at JUST the right time too! Work has been a bit stressful and gone a bit late and I REALLY didn't feel like cooking tonight.
I love farmer's markets for the baby lettuces this time of year...they are so good you don't even need dressing on them...especially the hearts!
