My nine yr old daughter just took a note out to our dead kitty's grave

Wow.

She very sweetly asked Alfalfa to "give her a sign" that she's still with her. Alfalfa died in my arms on Aug.1, 2004. She's buried on our property.

My daughter did this completely on her own. We hadn't even been talking about Alfalfa lately.

Hmmmmm....interesting, huh?

I told Kiana to tell me if Alfalfa follows through with her request. O8)

that is so cute. I burried a couple parakeets in the yard at my old house, and I used to visit them, too. Of course, I was around 12 at this time. What can I say, I was a weird kid.

I still carry a picture of a cat of mine that died in 1999 in my wallet. We adopted her when she was 10 years old from a home where she didn't get much love. We gave her a home and showered her with love and attention.

She got killed by a neighborhood dog one night, and I never cried so much for an animal before. It was really sad. We even rushed her to a nearby emergency pet hospital, but she was gone. I still get teary thinking about her. :cry:

Yeah, having my 19 yr old cat die in my arms was one of the most profound experiences of my life. I felt deeply blessed to bear witness to such a sacred and mysterious transition, as painful as it was at the time.

Would that we ALL could die in the arms of LOVE...... :loveya:

When my sister was about 3, our dog, Rollo, died. (I was too young to remember him.) My dad buried him in the back yard and said a few words, and Ginny apparently thought that was pretty cool — because she went and got the cat and tried to bury him.

The cat, who was quite alive, protested a bit.

I'm a cat lover and one of my pals likes to make me crazy by telling me that cats are great garbage disposal cleaners. Just grind one weekly.

I don't know why this thread would make me think of a funeral for a person, but it did. My ex-brother -in-law was a minister. He used to do graveside services, and took along a tape player to provide, uh, mood music. One time he had the wrong tape in the player and all of a sudden "Glow little glow worm" started playing -- to the surprise of the grieving family and friends.

You taught your daughter how to love and care :) Good job.

But I'm sure she misses Alfalfa and this is a great and loving way to express her grief. Give Kiana a hug for me and assure her that Alfalfa will always live in her heart :)

I've been dreaming about Roo lately. I swear, he appears to me in my dreams, to assure me that he's fine. I still miss him terribly, but I also feel a sense of peace, too.

16. Two of my birds that died are buried in my back yard, each has

a stone marking the spot, with name and dates on it. One's stone has a photo of her on it. They were buried in nice little boxes with some of their favorite toys inside. I often look out the back window at the stones and think about the birds. And I'm an adult. :-)

and entering puberty soon. Sounds like she's naturally curious about mortality and the life beyond, as well as looking to find reassurance about her awaking personal awareness regarding herself and her world. I remember going through a similar phase about that age.
