10. I don't think "dated" really applies for iconic Oscar moments. |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 03:20 PM by Shakespeare
Hell, I still hear the occasional joke about Susan Surandon and Tim Robbins....or about Brando and Sasheen Littlefeather. If the joke fits--and this one certainly did--who cares how old the reference is? If anything, it speaks volumes about the iconic nature of the Oscars themselves; everybody remembers those things, so the reference strikes a chord immediately.
edited to add: That joke got one of the biggest laughs of the night, which shows that the whole "dated" thing doesn't apply.
:eyes: right back at ya.

Yeah, I'm saying the joke was sustainable. Just like there have been a brazillion Brokeback Mountain jokes already, but the joke of the cowboy movie montage (showing how "gay" cowboys have always been) was funny, too. Just because countless jokes have been made about a topic doesn't mean that any subsequent jokes aren't funny. My favorite joke of the night was the one about pulling the statue down, but yeah, I laughed at the Bjork joke, too. Just like everybody in the audience did, and just like a helluva lot of DUers did. Sorry we don't meet your standard of comic approval, whatever that apparently is.
My initial post to you was written because I thought perhaps you weren't aware of the swan dress. That things have devolved to this has me just shaking my head. I was even nice trying to explain why I feel "dated" doesn't apply in this instance.
And yeah, I'm not only calling you nasty, but I'm reiterating it based on your last response. I don't know who peed in your Wheaties today, but geezuz...take a powder. I was not "giving you shit," but attempting to talk about why I think the joke resonated. Sue me.

give "diddly do . . .(or whatever you said) about the oscars it's pretty darned funny that you've started three threads about them in a relatively short amount of time.
it's way too much self congratulatory Hollywood hype and spittle for me and I prefer older and more obscure flix anyhoo.
Though I watched a smidgen just to see Jon.
But comparison and competitions of artistic expressions always has kinda silly when it's so-o-o bloody subjective and there's no accounting for taste after all.
Issues such as these always remind me of Elvis Costello's commentary about music critics. . ."Writing about music is like dancing about architecture." Be glad I'm not quoting him to you in person or I would be launching into my best performances of my assorted Ionic Column and Flying Buttress dance routines.
