1. Whatever.
Pouting.

Put a post up to try to commemerate being here for awhile - a post capturing some of what I find memorable over the past four years - and friends have ignored it.

Hrumph. UCLA. whatever.

15. too stressed to have humour
not sure if I am having a revelation tonight (a long coming one) - or whether it is just my stress/exhaustion talking. But isn't it odd when GD seems more like a welcoming refuge than the lounge?

19. GD is still the same shit
Tinfoil and histrionics and ideological purity.

Everyone over there is fried. I remember when I was the cynic and they were all the pollyannaa.

Then after the Dubai Ports fiasco, I got optmistic and the old pollyannas jumped all over my ass with negativity. It's proof I was right to take a break from politics for a while. It isn't healthy to get wrapped up too much in this shit. Politics is the entertainment branch of industry as it is.

20. Which makes it really odd
that it is, at least for me, right now a much more welcoming place than the lounge. Guess we are on divergent paths as I think I have to take a long break from the lounge for awhile. I can pick and choose there and still have some interesting conversations... here if I try - I am largely ignored.

25. No I didn't
I DID NOT SEE YOUR THREAD.

I post hit-and-run these days. And I miss a lot of crap.

The whining and self-pity is unsettling.

Besides, I never claimed I was important around here. ;-)

As I said elsewhere... have you known me to be prone to frequent fits of self-pity? If not - then perhaps it should not be so quickly dismissed.

32. I know
I am making it clear it disturbs me, which is not dismissing it.

I agree with you more than you know. The Lounge is largely a cesspool of twits and narcissists and alcoholics - and you aren't wrong for feeling out of place.

I haven't been around much either. In any forum. My writing has suffered as a result from the lack of participation. But I have Nini and my health and I am okay with that as an exchange.

 for you Salin!

38. Thanks Zomby
I needed that. Guess the feeling has been building for a long time (actually since my "spring break" a year ago - that this place is very different, and not participating as much as I once did put me on distinctly on the outside... but something crystalized tonight that hits me at a rather deep level. Will have to sleep on it. Which I really ought to do, about now, given how much work I have to do tomorrow ;-)

18. I am sorta feeling like the old used sneakers
in the corner that are, due to their use over time, a bit smelly... and thus easy to be ignored and wished away.

really not feeling like I have a place to belong - which is really pretty ironic given the whole post which tried to document the interesting things witnessed (ala as a DU participant) over the past four years. I am not prone to pity parties... but think I am having one tonight... really wondering whether I have a place at the lounge anymore. Really odd when the infamous GD feels more welcoming.

24. 's OK. Actually, feeling pretty much the same lately
and A LOT of it tonight. Actually considering avoiding the place for pretty much the reasons you have stated. Glad I tuned in this evening. Would have broken my heart not to hear from you.

Maybe Skinner can arrange a 'geezer lounge' for those of us who don't wanna play nasty. ;)

Gads, even John Kleeb isn't around and he is a youngster. A very bright one.
I miss him too. He gave me reason to have some hope for tomorrow.

36. LOL Yeah, das it!
He reminded me a bit of my nephew. I loved the kid but often wanted to clobber him in the head with a brick. Guess Kleeb gave me the same feeling sometime

I do put up with more from people than I should. Working on that lately. Pissing people off pretty regularly around here. But, hey, like the young man in Redstone's saga tonight, some of them need a cue stick across the nose.

Then I wanna be kinder and gentler like salin. I am having trouble with balance around here of late.

30. you don't know how much this post means
it resonates so clearly with me - and acknowledges that it isn't just me, or thin skin or some other dismissive thing. For those who have known me over time, I do hope that they recognize that it is not my style to be a drama queen. A pragmatic wet blanket from time to time... but not a histrionic drama queen. Very nice to read that my sense of this space is not just my sense. Am glad that you checked in tonight and we happened to exchange thoughts. Do know how much I appreciate you and your perspective.

11. My wife's uncle played hoops for USC
The Sunday LA Times featured him on the front page of their Sports section a few weeks ago. Back in the 30's... it was a retrospective on the old rivaly back then.

But since USC isn't even IN the tournament, your post goes nowhere. :P

44. Not at all. You must have just found the nutty ones. There were tons of
liberal and progressive people there when I was a student. 94-98 and again in 2001-2003. I have a BA in Journalism, with is part of the Annenberg Communications School in which Normal Lear has a Chair and is very active. The Masters of Professional Writing is extremely liberal. I knew one guy who was conservative- but not nutso, just disillusioned by ray-gun- and he secretly told me he felt very outnumbered in the department- not that anyone was unkind, but that he always felt ostracized in casual conversations so he usually just kept quiet. However, he did admit that many people made very insightful observations that he couldn't ignore.

Anyway, while there are the neocons conservative nuts, they are so angry and elitist because they are sorely outnumbered and they know it.
