2. Ergot. Or perhaps his slippers are not fuzzy enough,

giving him cold feet (And bringing his friday paper every tuesday, but that's another story), and cold feet drives people crazy, and they desire farinaceous dishes that are hot with butter and salt... in this case the only one available was popcorn, and the boredom drove hm to his current levels of craziness!!! Or perhaps it's just a username.
