2. Neither - people who will buy the crap being advertised during the show
It doesn't matter who likes the show if they can't sell the ad space...

3. Exactly--tv programming has nothing to do with entertainment--it has...
everything to do with advertising dollars.

4. And the part that really bothers me
is that much of the advertising during the shows I like is:
  • gym memberships
  • debt reduction/payday loans
  • lawyers offering car crash or drug company payoffs

I must be in a really strange bracket... :)
