Fellow cosmetic junkies- favorite make-up brands?

I just borrowed this book from my Mom and it has some great info. in it. I'm rather fond of alot of L'oreal stuff, and the author rated many of their products pretty highly. They seem to be of good quality for their relatively reasonable prices. I just got some really great Aveeno expoliating scrub recently, too- I'd highly recommend it. What are your favorites?

6. I will try their lotion- I've yet to find one that can satiate my immense

need for hydration. I'm a lotion junkie, for sure, but haven't used that kind in many years.

2. I use...

Bare Escentuals/Bare Minerals foundation, face color, and eye shadow.

I use MAC lipstick only.

I use Cover Girl Professional Mascara, and I have since my teens. I sometimes try something else, but always come back to Professional with the curved brush.

I use Revlon eye pencil.

For skincare: Neutrogena makeup removing cloths, Clinique 7-Day Scrub, Neutrogena Pore Refining Cream.

ETA: When it's time for a little summer color, I use Clinique Self-Sun. I have never tried anything better (and I've tried a lot of self-tanners!).

3. Major junkie here

Usually I split my stuff between MAC, Channel and Christian Dior, but I just tried Bare Escentual Minerals and I love the stuff. But I'll probably still use the other three for their great eye shadows & lip glosses.

15. I have a few suggestions

First I usually use an undershadow cream that helps lengthen the lifespan of my eyeshadow. I've had good luck with both MAC & Channel but even still I would usually need a touch up halfway through the day. However, along with the Bare EScentual foundations I bought 2 of their eyeshadows and they lasted longer than anything. The only reason I wouldn't go total BE is because there are colors from both MAC and Channel that I absolute adore (Sumptious Olive by MAC is my signature color eyeshadow with a bit of Shroom by MAC across the top)

29. oooooh, but TRY the bare escentuals eye shadows!

I've never had good luck with 1. loose powder shadows or 2. brush applicators in the past, because mroe of the eye shadow wound up on my cheeks than on my eyelids. The bare escentuals stuff, however, goes on great & stays on great.

35. Clinique + Bare Escentuals.

Clinique's moisturizer is the only one that does not make me burst into pimples. Bare Escentuals is light and flattering makeup.

12. Just be warned about that book. She is very critical of almost

every brand out there, and then lo and behold, comes out with her OWN line (!) which of course is perfect, and which of course is for sale.

Furthermore, she then proceeds to use the same ingredients in her own products that she openly criticized in other products.

22. My experience with expensive makeup is

1. it lasts longer cause you use less and it's better quality
2. it looks better so it's worth the extra couple of dollars (which is what it works out to for me. A bottle of foundation lasts me months, same with my powder, eyeshadow I actually have to replace cause I'm worried it's gone funny, ditto mascara)

I can't use cheap stuff. It just looks awful on me and feels awful and usually ends up costing me more in the long run.

I've found a formula I love in one brand, but they don't make a light enough color for me, and a color I like in another brand, but the formula's too chalky. ;(

Lancomes Dual Finish in Matte Porcelaine 1 gives a good coverage, can be used wet or dry, and is expensive but it lasts for EVER. Seriously, forEVER. And it NEVER breaks.

But, if you have dry skin, Cliniques Soft Finish Pressed Powder is good. I've used the soft bisque. Not as good a match (for me personally)

Because you have my skin, to a T, and I live in a drier climate than you.

Boots Botanicals Lighter Than Air Loose Powder in translucent. In the British Aisle (I know, so twee) at Target.

A light dusting in the morning works pretty much all day, and neither rubs off nor gets pasty looking. I go really lightly on the middle forehead (I have an "I don't wanna" line there).

39. Lara MN, Bare Esscentuals 'Mineral Veil', over a transluscent

foundation. I use Maybelline 'Wonder Finish' - it's fabulous and you can get it at the drug store. I am the fairest of the fair, with a bit of rosacea, and older skin, and the Mineral Veil powder is exceptional - much better than Mac. Much finer.

I've also become addicted to some skin and bath products from Garden Botanika. I really love their Vitamin E Stick for lips.

I use all different kinds of mascaras, my blushes and eyeshadows I get as samples w/Clinique promotions.

Foundation, well I really like the tinted sunscreen/moisturizer Clinique makes called CityBlock, especially in summer. For more coverage I use L'Oreal mostly because it is hard to find something fair enough for me.

30. Boots Botanicals house brand.

Target now carries it, but I fell in love with it when I was in the UK a few years ago. My great-aunt has been shipping the foundation and powder every six months or so. Fabulous coverage, looks flawless on, and has a high level of TIO2 to protect me from burning.

Also, Almay Black Plum mascara. It's just barely purple, but it looks natural on redheads.

32. Mary Kay and Bare Escentuals

I like the BE foundation. It really does even out my skin tone (I'm very fair and thin-skinned) I use Mary Kay because my niece sells it on the side and I can get it at cost. It is good stuff though, it doesn't need a touchup during the day. And it washes off really well.

I might try MAC since everybody here likes it too.

33. Aveeno is excellent for dry skin.

I have very dry skin, and nothing has ever worked as well. The hand cream is the best I've ever used. I only have to apply it once or twice a day, and it lasts. I really can't praise it enough.

As far as makeup goes, I like Bare Minerals for foundation, Stilla, Benefit, and NARS for anything color, and Lancome Flexstenciles for mascara. I'm a Sephora.com junkie.

34. Ok...But I am ridiculous....

Bare Essentials is good, but sometimes it is too shiney for me and then I switch to MAC studio matte foundation. Top that off with MAC compact Studio Fix and you'll have no worries. Use Laura Mercier 'secret camoflage' concealer if you need to cover any blemishes AFTER the foundation.

Benetint's stain (the pocket pal is great too) is great for Sring and for having the blush/lip thing taken care of.

Christian Dior has one of the best mascaras for my money, it's called 'DiorShow'. That shit can give Tammy Faye a run for her money. Estee Lauder makes a really good mascara, as does L'Oreal's 'lash-out' mascara. Tops.

I could go on and on, but don't think anyone wants a book here. :)

I also prefer Lancome mascara(Definicils). My standby blush is MAC "Prism". I've been wanting to try Bare Minerals but am unsure if they would be too drying for my skin. I really go insane about fragrances,and this is the one thing that I've spent WAY too much money on over the years. My favorites seem to be Chanel Coco,Opium,Must de Cartier,Samsara,and Nuit de Noel.

42. That's a great book. Paula Begoun has done a lot for us junkies!

I'm a high-end cosmetics and fragrance junkie and have been most of my life. I'm into Smashbox color cosmetics, NARS everything, Vincent Longo everything, Bobbi Brown color cosmetics, Caudalie skin care, Paula Dorf color cosmetics (LOVE her lipsticks!), Armani fragrances, and much, much more. My makeup drawers in my bathroom are almost overflowing, but I know where everything is. All of my makeup is immaculate---I don't allow eye shadow dust or foundation drips or anything, LOL! :)

My husband laughs but says I could be addicted to much worse things than makeup. I make regular trips to Sephora and buy from their website too. I also get things from dept. stores and drugstores, but they are usually something that I've tried before and use. I will say this---my skin looks the best it has in years (I'm 42, soon to be 43) because of one particular Caudalie moisturizer that I found at Sephora, and you'd better believe I'm keeping that one on my list! :D

BTW, I own 110 lipsticks and 42 glosses. Don't freak---I know other women who have more! LOL :)

I bought this wicker suitcase to organize all my makeup but that doesn't include the plastic bin with stuff I got bored with.

My secret is finding the cheap stuff. The Cosmetic Store, found at most Tangier Outlets, is an Estee Lauder outlet store. I can get all my MAC, Clinque, Prescriptives, Estee Lauder, Bobbi Brown and a few other brands there.

I have a ton of Chanel from the Chanel lady who use to come to our local flea market. The stuff was brand new but discontinued products and she sold them for great prices. But she's not there anymore and I miss her - she had great stuff.

I've also Ebay'd especially for discontinued items like the old line of CHristian Dior Platique lip laquers.

Also use Bare Escentuals..the "foundation". And no one ever talks about their blush but it's great..

For mascara, I like Maybelline Great Lash in Clear. For some reason black mascara looks kinda phoney on me and ends up all over. My lashes are already black..so clear and eye curler and I'm good to go.

But overall, I think they use too much slip in their line. Works well for women who have slightly drier skin than the norm, but use it on someone who's a little oily and you have to powder them down so much, their face comes out cakey and mask-like.

BTW, I forgot, Kevyn Aucoin's mascara is amazing!

I use it. I don't have dark circles, but it sort of minimizes the lines under my eyes. The statement on the box says: Gentle gel-creme blends easily for full coverage of dark circles.

54. I've become a big fan of Mahya

It's a mineral powder and when you wear it,
it feels like you're wearing no makup at all.
They have gorgeous colors - I use natural for
my base, mauve for blush, a cotton candy pink
for a little glow and pearl eyeshadow.

The best thing is that it doesn't melt off
