So this explains it all: Tom Cruise's dad abused him |
|
http://news.yahoo.com/s/eo/20060406/en_celeb_eo/18738Cruise: Dad Abused MeAs Tom Cruise prepares to be a proud papa again, he has implied that there's one man he definitely will not be taking lessons in daddyhood from.
His own father.
The War of the Worlds star says in the upcoming issue of Parade magazine that his father, Thomas Cruise Mapother III, who died in the mid-'80s of cancer, was abusive.
"He was a bully and a coward. He was the kind of person where, if something goes wrong, they kick you," Cruise said. "It was a great lesson in my life--how he'd lull you in, make you feel safe and then, bang!"
Even when he was a child he felt that his dad was someone to watch out for. "For me, it was like, 'There's something wrong with this guy. Don't trust him. Be careful around him.' There's that anxiety," Cruise divulged. His mother, Mary Lee, divorced his dad in 1974.
Cruise said he approached his father for a reconciliation (sometime between Risky Business and Top Gun), when Mapother was on his deathbed. "He would only meet me on the basis that I didn't ask him anything about the past," the 43-year-old actor said.++++++++++++++ Ironically dear old dad is dead so it's not like the guy can defend himself against these accusations

1. While I have no doubt that Cruise's assessment of his father is accurate, |

um...that really doesn't excuse any of his insane behavior or his current scam with Katie Holmes. I feel so bad for his extant children, and the one about to be "born," to be paraded around for publicity during the opening of Cruise's next film. UGH. I'm a child abuse survivor, too, but I can't bring myself to feel bad for Tom here. There's a way to solve the kind of pain he's living with: THERAPY. Oh, and maybe...not inflicting yourself on others until you've got your abuse issues somewhat more resolved? Until you're somewhat more sane? Overcoming the self-hatred so you don't start abusing others the way your own parents abused you is really important. Yes, yes, Tom was sucked in by a cult...that he sought out to "cure" him of his gayness. I'm quite certain that by 2009/10, he'll be blaming the Scientologists for everything he's done throughout the past few years.

First, the man is dead so dear old dad can't even defend his actions.
Second, Tom has been acting like a nut job and is alienated many of his fans, which I probably once could have included myself. So nothing more heart-wrenching than a "Daddy Abused Me" sob story to try and bring back some of those alienated fans.
And third - just scroll down and read some of ET's replies about how the whole Scientology Mantra is to blame your problems on things in the past. I'm buying this story as much as I bought the "Iraq has WMDs" one.
Perhaps I could be proven wrong, but these past 2-3 years Mr. Cruise has done nothing to make me believe otherwise. He is crazy and now he is being very abusive to his so-called girlfriend by forcing her to go through what could be considered very unnatural childbirth. Maybe there are no physical bruises or scars on Katie, but mentally the woman has been battered

31. A former "boyfriend" of mine was into Scientology |
|
and is now on a list of child sex abusers. He was emotionally abusive to me when we were involved. If things had lasted longer, I think it would have escalated to physical abuse.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn he'd been abused by his father. But I also suspect Scientology helped fuck him up further.

I don't think she's pregnant either. Pictures of her look very fake. One week there's a picture of her looking about 6 months along and next week she looks like she carrying triplettes.

teaches that EVERY bad thing in your life is a result of past experiences. Hell, they have even said that headaches can be remembered pain from failed abortion attempts (according to Hubbard, usually done with knitting needles) while you were in the womb.
I question anything and everything said by an acknowledged Scientologist.

It's pseudo-psychological bullshit masked as a self-help sysem (in the case of Dianetics)which preaches that the entire mental health profession (except for the pseudo-scientific Hubbardized bullshit) is an attempt to take over the world.

sure, we dress it up in "helping people" and "making lives better," but we're really all about frontal labotomies and electro shock therapy. Oh, and we eat babies, too :D
ask your father and sister... they might say it's a lie, but look into their eyes, and you'll know the TRUTH!!1!1!

10. ok, I'm totally with you on the "Tom Cruise is insane" thing |
|
But...first of all, I don't think it's fair to draw a correlation between his current loony behavior and his childhood abuse. Are you implying that all abused children grow up to be a little off?
And secondly, I don't see Cruise using this abuse as any kind of excuse for any of his behavior. He's talking candidly about a horribly painful part of his life. As much as he creeps me out with his Scientology crap, I have to applaud him for being able to face this and talk about it.

11. I think he's using the 'abuse' to try to win back some of the fans |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 09:05 AM by LynneSin
he has alienated.
And if you read some of ET_awful's post (he seems to be an expert on it - I think he had a friend who got involved with the cult) and you'll learn that the basis of scientology is basically external factors make you who you are.
I use to be the biggest Tom Cruise fan even with the scientology crap but I haven't seen anything since Minority Report because I'm not giving any money to a nutjob who somehow thinks he knows medicine & psychiatry. I mean, he helped build a Scientology center down by the WTC where the people want to treat fireman for smoke inhalation by telling them to quit all medical treatment and they can somehow cleanse them. Crap like this puts peoples lives at risk.
So personally, I see this nothing more than a ploy to try and get his alienated fans endeared to him again. Teri Hatcher recently came out about being abused. I read her story and really felt for her - I was never a big Hatcher fan but I appreciated it more. But personally, I think Cruise's story is nothing more than publicity.

Sadly, I've not found my Zeppelin vinyl yet... I'm itchin' to pull it out and jam it on the new turntable! I only have one Zep on CD, so I've gone all these years without being able to play any.
I'm really hoping I find Physical Graffiti first. That would so rock!

|
When I go used record shopping at the flea markets and find an LZ album I'll usually buy it. THey look so sad stuck in that box filled with all those other wanted and unloved records that I just want to give them a good home. So I have a few copies of LZIV, Physical Graffiti and IN Though the Out Door (although I'm trying to find all 6 covers)
I could hook you up with a few

12. I just find it coincidental that these "revelations" |
|
are coming out now. It feels like damage control to me. Just as was said, like he is trying to win back fans and justify his current behavior.
I don't think it was implied that all abused children grow up "a little off" in the thread any where, so I am not sure where that was coming from. It may be the case for Tom Cruise, it may not. But I think, and am pretty sure most will agree, that abuse will have SOME TYPE of impact on the person. It may be for good or ill, may leave them weaker or stronger, but there will be an impact.
If I were an abuse survivor, I just know that I would not want Tom Cruise speaking for me with this disingenuous kind of "confession."

It isn't exactly some farfetched abuse story, it's pretty common emotional abuse. I can see it being true because children who are bullied in this way often become bullies of others, like Tom seems to be when he browbeats people on TV.

|
I read the long expose in Rolling Stone and was floored. The thing masturbation is WRONG! They think being GAY is wrong! If you are going to join a cult ergo religion that believes in crap like that well aren't there already enough of them around? I thought for some reason-maybe because of all the celebrities that yeah-they sure they believe in weird alien shit-but at least were progressive. Man, it's all a made up con by Mr. Hubbard. It proves people will believe ANYTHING. I guess it made the last six years easier to understand. Anyway-people are so easy to manipulate-it still blows my mind. Oh and you have to give zillions of bucks to be "clear" aka saved. At least Christianity is basically free if you believe. P.S. I too have a crappy crappy father and I didn't become a scientologist. Also, I never married Mimi Rogers-which is were he got his "faith" from.
