Poll question: What on Earth is the song "Sister Christian" about?
Edited on Sat Apr-15-06 06:34 AM by Frank Cannon
"...Sister Christian
Oh the time has come
And you know that you're the only one
To say O.K.
But you're motorin'
You're motoriiiiiiiiiiiiiiin'..."

???

I heard this song on the radio three times yesterday. Did someone in Night Ranger die?

1. Honestly I have never heard the complete version of that song.
Just the part that made it into 'Boogie Nights'.

Maybe a nun who secretly longed to be a mechanic?

12. The very end of the movie. He's standing in front of a mirror, reciting
his lines when it's revealed. :o

Always cracks me up because ELO's 'Living Thing' begins playing for the closing credits.

10. It was HUGH!!1!1! back in the mid-80s
I believe it even made it onto the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City soundtrack, which is like the gold standard of 80s radio.

4. Other: It's about a nun who wants fun in the sun but no son so she
shuns sea shells by the sea shore and then on her radar picks up a car at the bar, but it's far down the tar and she'll mar her shoes though she'll choose to vamoose and lose her shoes so she's driving and striving to dive in, but the skiving are conniving to confiscate the car.

That answer your question?
The answer to your other question is 'No, I didn't actually vote in the poll and mess it up, I've never even heard the song'.

Motorin'??? All these years I suspected it, but I didn't want to believe it. Is that even a word? Yeah, these guys must have been messed up on all kinds of drugs to write a song this godawful.

It's kewl that it has meaning. But, to be honest, it's just kickass, it doesn't really need lyrics. :P

What this song about is obvious; it's about how Catholic School girls have this great reputation for being so pure. However, this song shows how the truth is that they're the most willing to drop their drawers.

- "and you know that you're the only one to say, 'let's play" and "ok"

- And what exactly do you think they're doing at the "motrin" ehem, I mean, "Motor Inn"?

- What's your price for flight? Metophor for "orgasm"

- "Sister Christian, there's so much in life. Don't you give it up before your time is due." -Advice not to pop your cherry at such a young age. However, she does it before this speach is given.

- "What's your price for flight, finding Mr. Right" - She doesn't care about "Mr. Right" she just wants a slab of salomi between her creamy thighs.

These lyrics are pretty cut and dry. Think about them. It all adds up. It's about an "innocent" Catholic School girl who spends her days with her legs spread.

Okay, here is the True Spin according to an interview they did on VH1. The song is not a religious song at all. THERE IS NO SISTER CHRISTIAN! There is, however, a sister Christy. When the lead signer's sister Christy graduated high school, she and her friends decided to go out and drive around the streets of her town looking for guys, or as they called it 'motorin''. He wrote 'Sister Christy' as a warning to his sister to be careful about choices she would have to make. The first line of the actual lyrics was supposed to say 'Sister Christy, I know the time has come', but when he sang it for the band it came out 'Sister Christian, oh the time has come'. As a result, the misunderstanding stuck.

You are all wrong, I use to work with night ranger, This song is entirely about one night in nevada, We were all partying(Hard) and Pauly was creepin everybody out(Shirtless and Hairy etc.) (and on peyote) We came up with Motoring from his unwillingness to lsten to us telling him to put his clothes back on. Even after we offered him money and more drugs. (i.e. "your price for flight") and his sister Christian was there pleading for more cactus tequila and it all formed around that night. With some more polishing of the lyrics and the tune during a severe ether binge The band had thier hit. Shorlty after I was out of a job. because they failed to write any more sucsessful songs. How can you not get this song? It's about changes, and in this case it's about a girl called Christian.

11. Those are hilarious. Thanks for that.
I particularly like the "slutty Catholic schoolgirl" theory. It actually does kind of fit the lyrics.

13. Original lyric was "Sister Christie"
according to an interview I read with one of the guys in Night Ranger back in the 80s. It is supposed to be about the guy's younger sister, and her growing up and "becoming a woman".

Christie got changed to Christian because it sounded better on the mix. It has nothing to do with Christianity or religion.
